I believe there is great depth at tackle and gaurd this year, its fairly heavy with ILB and OLB prospects as well.

Trading back would be ideal in all honesty this year, there will be starters to be had at key positions for our team in later rounds for sure.

This has nothing to do with your post but I keep reading peoples post about getting a RB in the third, etc..

Just because that has happened in recent drafts, does not mean that will be typical of every draft. This year's draft I am not overly impressed at all with the RB depth in this draft. It's really not that great and something to keep in mind.

Are you really listing Anthony Spencer and his 33 career sacks as an edge rusher as a trade up success?

Or the Patriots using a 6th round draft pick to move up one spot and take a defensive end that only started for six years?

And Tony Dorsett drafted 30 years ago.

Now please go back and list all the scenarios in which trading up hasn't worked out.

There have been 57,349 trade ups in NFL draft history.

    You've listed 7 successes.

    Not great odds.

All I am saying is that we should keep an open mind.

The benefit of trading up or down would depend on how the players fall as the picks are made.

A lot of trades in the first round involve players or multiple picks. In many cases it isn't always clear which team wins or loses. Sometimes a team makes a pretty good trade (Ricky Williams for the Saints) and the other team hits lotto in the draft (Redskins used one of the picks on Champ Bailey) making an otherwise good trade into a bad one.

Look at the Sanchez trade. Cleveland got nothing of value in return for us moving up to # 5 overall. Sanchez for all of his faults started as a rookie, took us to two AFC Championship games (both lost by our defense), and got a raw deal when he was run out of town. His contract extension was a huge mistake but we totally won the trade with Cleveland.

Even if it means moving up to #18 just to stick it to the Bills trading up may prove to be the best option.

If the draft falls this way, I'd take Floyd from UGA.

Stokes. You probably wrote it somewhere and you know I value your opinions on QB's highly. How does our Petty compare to the top QB prospects in this draft? Let me rephrase my question. Is there any QB you would pick at #20 if one of the top prospects fell to 20?

No. I think Petty is a better prospect than all of the top prospects this year and considering he's had a full year to watch tape, sit in an NFL QB room, absorb some of Fitz's aura, practice against an NFL defense, work out in an NFL strength and conditioning program, watch games from the sideline--I'm not taking any of the QBs at 20.

I hope Goff and Cook and Hack and Lynch are all drafted in the top 15. 4 better players at any other position fall to us.

With one massive caveat. I don't have a true feel for Carson Wentz. In very limited action he looked better than any college QB I saw play this year. If the front office loves the guy and they take him at 20, I'm on board but I just didn't see enough of him to make my own personal assessment.

Hmmm….I think those teams really could have used Kenyon Coleman, Abram Elam and Brett Ratliff. We could have stayed put and draft Josh Freeman, who would more than likely have won those AFCCGs.

You can't take a kid from North Dakota State in the top 20. Won't happen

I said the same thing about a QB from Delaware.

Again, I don't love the top prospects this year but I don't have a good handle on Wentz.

He could be the real deal.

I went into last night's game with my eye on Ragland and came away more impressed with Reuben Foster #10. Same could be said about Dodd from Clemson, what a game he had.

If we draft a DT/DE I will vomit vociferously.

I know and the same exact thing can be said for Big Ben and Brett Favre. However, banking on Wentz and thinking he could be one of the lucky few is a long shot.

I voted incorrectly. I would take Elliot at 20 potentially. However, I would trade down. I definitely would not trade up. We need the picks.

You could also make an argument that while the jets won the trade over cleveland, both teams lost relative to the rest of the teams due to it. I wish we knew the team's draft board to get a feel of who they might have picked if they stayed put.

Edit: oops, was meant to quote the guy you quoted sorry!
