I think none of those guys will be coming here because they'll all command too much money and the Jets simply don't have the cap space or are stupid. We have 23 FAs of our own, including 7-10 starters and key backups. The only five players on that list I'd like to have are Miller, Cousins, Martin, Norman, and Trevathan, oh, and maybe Osweiler. IMO Forte will NOT be re-signing with Chicago. Google him. He left a workout jersey in his locker with a slogan on it as a message to the Chicago FO. He's not interested in returning there.
How can you be disappointed with Enunwa? He was a raw WR picked in the 6th round. It's just impressive that he made it to an NFL roster.
Not disappointed based on his being a 6th round pick. Disappointed after the in season hype only to see him evidence bad hands I don't think he's likely to get over. Could be wrong, but that is why. The Jets need more options at wideout than Decker and Marshall. I don't think Enunwa is the answer.
There was clearly a certain amount of hype: Enunwa has gone from Jets afterthought to king of clutch http://nypost.com/2016/01/01/enunwa-has-gone-from-jets-afterthought-to-king-of-clutch/
i don't really think he's a wideout. he'll compete with Amaro for playing time next year.. both drop passes, but Enunwa isn't as soft as Amaro, so i could see him taking reps. in terms of WR, they should've played Kerley way more than they did.
Maybe the time off gave Amaro some time to get his shit together. I'm not sure if he's soft, or that he's more of a Prima Donna type, that lacked maturity, and didn't really want to block. Definitely some growing pains there. Time to man up tho Enunwa on the other hand may indeed lack the hands to reach his potential, pun intended. But is a good end of roster guy. I'd love to see Enunwa improve, but he still stabs at the ball like he did in college and has not improved that much since. He is not a natural pass catcher. He does everything else well tho Amaro's hands are better than Enunwa's, but they're both question marks as to what they can contribute to the passing game moving forward, imo. It's curious why Kerley didn't play more. They wanted speed outside, but there's more to it than that apparently
We all would love to see Enunwa improve. But the realist in me thinks he still was showing bad hands at the end of the season. Anyway, it's not just my opinion. I seriously doubt the FO and CS think the Jets bench is solid for receivers. Kerley is a goner.
I hope you're right about Amaro getting his shit together or growing up in the time off. Whatever it is, he needs to stay healthy and prove that he not only deserves to be on the roster but on the field starting. I just think he was a bad pick. He was a product of that offense. Most of his catches were never contested. He was bigger than many, if not most of the defensive players, and was fast enough to avoid most of those he wasn't bigger than. He always looked stiff, somewhat clumsy and unathletic to me. I don't know what the problem is with Enunwa. I didn't see him play in college. He has made some great catches, so I'm not sure it's his hands. If it is, I don't see how he made some of the catches he did this season. I think it may be focus, or it could be the fundamental issue you mentioned of his stabbing at the ball with his hands rather than softening his hands and cradling the ball as he catches it. Whatever it is, I hope they can fix it, because if they can, he can be a HUGE weapon for us. Kerley isn't that fast, and he's short. Gailey and Bowles seem to like taller receivers and I can't blame them for that. I think both Fitz and Gailey are wild high when they're off. Kerley then would be a hindrance rather than a help. A poster or two also speculated about a possible issues during OTAs or TC that may be part of the reason he didn't play much as well. I liked him and was glad at the time the Jets picked him, but I think it's time to move on.
Agreed. There's a need in pass catching and work to do. I guess they could try and work with all the TE's that are on the roster, and get WR help. Their approach will tell us how they feel about guys here now, on top of Kerley's spot
Von Miller is unrealistic. Too much cap space required. Linebacker can be addressed via draft. Harrison will likely stay with a Jets friendly deal. I say this because he is surrounded by studs, and it's not likely he'd have the same success elsewhere. Let Ivory walk, sign Powell. Ivory has pretty much proven he can't stay healthy for a whole season now. If he is retained, we'll need to bring in somebody else to lighten the load. I'd rather have Forte, but don't want the Jets to break the bank over him. For TE, the Jets should definitely talk to Allen. Cumberland has to go, way too many drops. Amaro should be back with more knowledge of the system, just need a vet to pair him with. Vernon Davis is too old and is declining. Kellen Davis should stick to blocking. I don't think we should talk to any WRs. Marshall - Decker is a good 1 2 punch and they have some young promising guys in there too. Smith was bad, but can improve. Maybe draft a WR ST guy late. Don't want to overpay at this position. At CB, Cromartie will be cut, but the unit is deep. Maybe sign a solid #2, but no way in hell should they spend big bucks at this position. Pacman Jones might be cheap if he gets cut, due to the Bengals recent debacle. I think Oline should be addressed partially via the draft but also bring in a solid vet. The line basically needs a youth movement. Restructure Dabrick, draft his eventual replacement. Same with Mangold.
At #1 the author couldn't decide whether a chance was fat or slim. It should be easy to tell whether something is fat or slim.
I think there's a 50-50 chance Harrison will go. I think it will depend upon cap space and whether they think Deon Simon can adequately replace him. I agree on Miller, Ivory/Powell, Allen and the TEs, Cromartie, and the WRs. The Jets may not be able to afford to bring in a solid vet OL. I wish they could, but at the moment, I don't see it. Restructuring Brick and Mangold is NOT the way to go imo. Restructuring means paying more money and kicking the cap hit down the road. Tanny did that and it bit the team in the ass every single time. The last thing you want to do is give an older player whose play is in decline and who is more injury prone, more money and a bigger future cap hit, where it handcuffs the team after they're gone. Brick should take a pay cut, not a restructure. He may not. At that point, Mac either has to suck it up and pay him for one more season or cut him and find his replacement. There's no way in hell the Jets should even consider that scumbag Pacman Jones. I can't believe you even suggested him. I'd rather the team go 0-16 for the rest of their existence than bring in that POS.
Feel free to correct the hell out of me.. probably just something i haven't noticed... but how are Quincy's hands bad? I only recall him dropping a screen pass (lol) in week 17. That drop wouldve went for 6 too... HELLO PLAYOFFS!
As I said, I'm not sure it's his hands, but he dropped quite a few passes during the year, preseason and TC.
I think it's more like a two thirds chance Harrison will be gone, assuming Wilkerson stays. Which I think is more likely than not. Got those odds? Heh. Seriously if they sign Wilkerson, how will it make sense to tie up even more money on Harrison? Harrison is not going to give a hometown discount. He was given the offer to sign a deal at $5mil a year two years ago and turned that down. He's going to want top dollar, probably top dollar for an NT. Putting aside Mangold, who at least this year I don't think they will feel they have to fish or cut bait with, I agree that restructuring is a bad idea and they probably will not do it on Ferguson. And I agree with the logic that as between paying him and cutting him, they will more likely cut him. That leaves him agreeing to a pay cut. I actually can see that happening, assuming both sides can agree more or less what his current market value is, and the Jets are willing to pay that. I hope that is what happens.
