My argument for the 98 championship game being the worst has always been based on the idea that it was essentially the Super Bowl. We would have skull-fucked the Falcons just as badly as Denver did.
So many brutal losses and they all made me sick, but the very first the fake spike game cemented what it meant to be Jets fan fairly early in my Jet fandom. It seems like The Jets have almost singularly been savaged by goofy ass more than any other team since the spike.
The NYJs did not pay a OL that they obtained for the 68 season so he "retired" & that left a gaping hole in the OL & they could protect JWNThe beginning of the SOJ stupidity began then
It has to be the Doug Brien game. Not only did we lose to Shittsburg, but the ripples after that was drafting Mike Nugent "K" (another shitty Ohio St pick) in the 2nd round AND trading for Doug Jolley AND thereby missing the chance to get Heath Miller who was drafted by the Steelers who we had just lost to in the playoffs. To top it off the New England Patriots* "won" the SB that year. I rest my case.
For me, I'd say: (1) 2010 AFC Championship. Interestingly, my roommate (who knew nothing about football) was confused why I was so angry when that game ended; he said they were a young team with a great coach and they'd get back. I told him he didn't know the Jets like I did; he now admits that I was completely justified. (2) 1998 AFC Championship. (3) The Doug Brien game. The 2009 AFC Championship didn't bother me that much; the Jets lucked into the playoffs to begin with, and I couldn't really blame a 9-7 team with a rookie HC and a rookie QB for losing to Peyton Manning's Colts.
