Indian has long been the name used most commonly to refer to Native Americans. If you find it offensive, I apologize, but I have never heard anyone claim that they find that term or name offensive. That doesn't mean that it isn't. I guess I need to look up the etymology of the word/term. I just looked it up on Wikipedia. It appears that the name comes from Columbus who either mistakenly thought he had reached the Indian Ocean and India, or as some claim, the West Indies, or as still others claim it comes from Columbus claiming the people were gentle and of God (en Dios). I see in the article that it has become somewhat controversial, but that can vary from region to region and there's little or no consensus on it. The federal government coined the term "Native American" but some object to that as it omits the native Hawaiian, Alaskan and Samoan peoples and their tribes. Here's the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_name_controversy
I may be wrong about this but it seems to me that no one was ever offended by the Washington redskins until some liberal white social justice warriors decided it was offensive and convinced them they should be offended.
Kirk Cousins has started something like 27 times and has never beat a team that finished with a winning record. Pretty fascinating.
When I was in grade school I recall Injun Red and Negro as colors in my Crayola Crayon box. My how times have changed.
I don't remember those colors, but then it probably has been a lot longer since I was a kid and had a box of Crayolas than it has been for you! LOL The times have definitely changed, and thank God for it. I remember whites only drinking fountains and bathrooms.
Thanks for the link! That was very interesting. I always thought it was solely due to the mistake in thinking they had reached India. Indian has always made little sense to me but now I see some other possibilities.
You're welcome! Yes, I found it very interesting and enlightening. If we're lucky, we learn something new every day!
One of my best friends calls me a grape stomping Guinea WOP bastard and I call him a hook-nosed Jesus killing Jew bastard. Too soon? _
