DE for JAX? No way, they will take Jalen Ramsey as their secondary is a crap. QB for CHI? No. Connor Cook so high? No. I'd say trade up 3 spots and get Taylor Decker OT.
I think Fitzpatrick should be the starter next year. He has certainly earned that. With that said, I think if Carson Wentz is available at 20, we should seriously consider him. This guy looks like he could be a Joe Flacco I-AA prospect. He sits behing Fitzy for a couple years and Petty and Wentz compete for the job.
The Jets better not take a RB with the 20th pick, they need to shore up the Oline and the LB group, with the 20th pick in the draft a RB is not the BPA. They can get a good RB in the 3rd round. Keep an eye on Josh Ferguson from Illinois.
While I like what Fitz did this year, I don't think he should be named the starter, I think Petty should be given the chance to compete for the job, Fitz is toward the end of his career. I wouldn't mind the coaching staff leaning towards him being the starter but to make it official, I think it's a mistake. Petty might be the answer, just as Russel Wilson beat out the incumbents in Seattle, including Flynn who was brought in to be the starter, Petty should be given the same chance.
Fitzy had a great year by any measurement. He was able to consistently move the ball, deliver to our wide receivers and work with mediocre options outside of Decker and Marshall. He had a disappointing game against Buffalo, but that doesn't mean that you dismiss Fitzy based on one game in a windy and cold Buffalo game in January. This offense badly needs a TE and a better right side of the OL, give Fitzy some better tools and I guarantee that he'll have an even better year next year. He has earned the starting job next year, no question on that. He'll have to play really poorly in the first few regular season games to lose his job.
Pretty straight forward actually. Given the players available according to the list, who do you want?
Where is the option for trading 20 & 83 for 15 & 170 then trading 15 & 51 for 12 and 113 then trading 113 & 170 for 87 and 201? That would have been as straight forward. _
I would also like to see some of those guys fall further. I looked at a few mocks and most were like this with Ragland and others that could help us off the board at #20.
Rather than create more threads on the draft, I'll take a little rabbit trail on this one to express my biggest concern about anyone that is remotely associated with draft decisions for the Jets. My hope is that we please stay away from any considerations to draft a RB with the first pick. Not just no but hell no unless the guy is an absolute game changer, walk on water stud that can return punts and or kickoffs EFFECTIVELY. I don't think this is the year. WE Have 2 massive GAPPIN HOLES that need immidiate and multiple personnel help. That is IMO the first, second and third reason why we stalled this year. RB is not one of them, nor is it WR or DB or DL. BPA approach must be locked towards two critical areas; OL and LB, particularly OLB. That is a must. If the values for the pick are remotely close when the bell rings 20 it should be a no brainer. I have had my share of OL drafted in the later rounds by us and it's being a massive bust. Along the same lines, our draft has been dismal in the LB position, from ill conceived experiments like Gholston or Coples to simply not drafting one at all. For our offense to be remotely successful next year the front line will require significant improvements now. Conversely, with our current LB corps and defensive schemes we will be ineffective as hell to stop any team on third down. So please when our number is called at 20, forget the RB.
IMO, all those ideas suck except trade down or "other." The one thing the Jets absolutely cannot do is trade up. I'm gobsmacked that any knowledgeable poster would put up a poll with even one, much less so many trade up options included in the poll. SMH The Jets have 23 FAs, at least 6-7 of them are starters, and more than likely, they'll only be able to re-sign a third of them or less if they keep Mo. They have depth issues already thanks to Tanny's constant trading up, and Idzik's cluelessness and wasting most of 12 draft picks in 2014. They need new starters at RG, ILB, OLB, TE, and quite possibly at RB. That doesn't take into consideration that they need an upgrade at RT and the other TE positions as well. They need to find Brick's eventual replacement. They only have 6 draft picks, and may have at most only $20-$35 million to work with in FA, and that's if they don't re-sign Mo, cut players like Cro, Cumberland and Kerley, and are able to get Brick to take a $5-$7 million pay cut. The idea of trading up is totally effing stupid and laughable.
There is no scenario in which I would trade up. There is no position other than QB that I would ever trade up for. I want every single pick we have, especially in rounds 1-3. Nope. Stay where we are and take the BPA. _
Teams trade up all of the time. Trades that worked for the team moving up: Eli Manning Julio Jones Ty Warren (Patriots traded up for a change) Dez Bryant Anthony Spencer Derrelle Revis Tony Dorsett
I'm big on Zeke, he is going to be a stud. I have no doubt in my mind, I've been wrong before but I think he is going to be a fantastic RB in the NFL. I truly believe Joey Bosa, Darron Lee, and Taylor Decker are all overrated. Eli Apple should be the first or second CB taken in this draft by the time it's all said and done. I didn't see him, maybe I'm blind, but Leonard Floyd would be a serious option as of now as well. Also, I don't think Michael Thomas is the second best WR in this draft, I would be surprised if he was a first rounder come April, he does have big play potential with great hands, its just hard to tell with Myers offense.
Yes, trade ups can work at times, but even when they do, there is a cost. Jones is a great player, but it has also hurt Atlanta. It hurt the Giants, although in trading up for a franchise QB the negatives don't matter. This isn't one of those times where it's a smart thing to do or where it can help the team more than it can hurt. Seriously, have you not been paying attention the last 10 years? Did you not pay attention this year at all and see how we need a stud pass rusher, a new ILB to pair with Harris, Brick's replacement, Giacomini's replacement, a new starting RG, at least one and maybe 3 TEs, a punter, a PR, probably 2 RBs, and better depth at center? The team has little or no depth because of all of Tanny's trade ups, missed picks and Idzik's incompetence. They have a ton of holes and needs and only 6 picks anyway. They don't have much cap space to work with and will probably be losing some starters and some key backups, and you want to trade up for one player? Unreal. A strong case could be made for trading down. No reasonable case can be made for trading up. Trading up would be criminally stupid this year. You're smarter than this.
