Damn shame too, scouts should've looked at his overall tape including the year he ran a pro style offense. I hope the Browns go ahead and select Paxton Lynch to get him off the board. The 49ers and Browns are going to take a QB. You can write off Goff and Lynch I think. Barring a trade-up from another team, you could see the Jets select a QB.

However, I would really like to see if one of the premier offensive lineman is available or if the Jets trust the fact that Jaylon Smith will recover and he slides.

Hey, I hope that you're right. I'd LOVE it if he fell to #20!!! If so, Mac ought to sprint or do cartwheels all the way to the podium to turn in his card. Between Wentz and Petty, surely the Jets would have their QB of the future, and could have their starter and backup for the next 10-15 years. They could even conceivably be able to trade one of them for a #1 pick or multiple picks if he got to play and showed that he was a quality starter.

Wentz is the only QB I would touch in the first round. If he's not there, then OT, LB…etc.

Lesser name reporters, stated several times during the draft process that Mariota was ranked lowly on many draft boards and the drafting of Mariota by Tennesee was likely the owner's decision(which makes sense considering the fact that they just fired their GM and head coach). You never know with the NFL.. I hope I'm right, because I really like Wentz right now.

As much as we need a LT and a stud pass rusher (and I've been talking about getting a stud pass rusher for 10 years and a new LT for the last 2 years), if Wentz is there, the Jets have to take him unless they're absolutely sold that Petty is going to be their QB of the future. In that scenario, they might be able to trade the pick for multiple picks or could think about taking the OLB or OT.

I'm not really a Lynch fan, but he deserves a chance to succeed , lol. I'd be fine with a ton of guys this year at pick 20. The OT from Ohio state is pretty good, Jaylon Smith might be a good pick even though he comes with injury concerns, and I like Wentz. I'm interesed to see what happens with Wilkerson as well... hope we keep him around, but if he's traded we'll likey end up with another top twenty five pick and it would be nice to come out with combination of Wentz/ an edge rusher or top inside linebacker.

Did you just see the spot where they went through the HOF and great NFL players from the FCS? Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Kurt Warner, Michael Westbrook, Randy Moss, Steve McNair, Ron Jaworski, Charlie Joyner, Howie Long, Keith Jackson, Buck Buchanan, Terrell Owens, and there were a couple of other names I didn't get. Are GMs ignorant of that? If so, they have no business being GMs in the NFL.

I already like him better than Connor Cook.

I like Wentz a lot, but I've seen some habits that he's going to need to break and work he needs to do. On some long throws, the receiver has had to slow down or adjust their route for the ball. I think his accuracy needs some work on the long ball and he needs to lead his receivers more.

He also seems to throw the ball up a lot and allow his receivers to make a play on the ball. That's fine in college where the coverage often isn't that good and the DBs don't turn around, but in the NFL, that will lead to a lot of picks.

His last two throws were not very good. A jump pass that was way too high and 10 yards past the receiver in the end zone, and the 2nd pass the receiver was totally covered and there's no way the ball should have been thrown. Either he threw the ball away or made a bad throw as it wasn't close to his receiver.

I think he definitely needs to sit a year to work out those flaws. Teams don't like to use top 15 picks on guys who aren't going to play immediately, so he might fall because of that alone. It would be the perfect storm of a good prospect who needs to sit a year falling to us at the end of the first round, while we have a veteran stopgap capable of mentoring him through that year. But we're the Jets, so it probably won't work out.

Yes, unless he wows everyone at the Combine and with his interviews, I can now see him falling to us at #20. He could sit for a year behind Fitz, and then Petty and he could compete for the starting job.

What a sequence of plays...fumble by Jacksonville St., dumb play call and interception by N. Dakota St., then interception by Jacksonville St. LOL

Depends who is available. I am absolutely passing on a QB if Myles Jack from UCLA is available or even Jaylon Smith depending on his injury Those are do it all linebackers that can play anywhere and do virtually anything. Very special talents that can take this defense to the next level. I still think the OT needs to be upgraded big time.

I'm not as high on Petty as others, but I hope he improves big time this off-season. If we can get one of those linebackers then grab a QB in the middle rounds, I will be happy. There's really only 2 pro ready QBs in this draft. Goff and Cook. Lynch and Wentz will need seasoning.

Not many great YOUNG qbs in this league - so they all deserve a chance to succeed heh, that doesn't mean it will happen. I really wish Myles Jack from UCLA would fall, he's superior to Smith except for his size.

Anyway to remain competitive and build on what we did this season *sigh* watching the wildcard games is so depressing.

We've been getting better young quarterbacks as of recently, but man the Browns are a rough landing spot for any Quarterback. I like Jack's versatility and he showed he can be physical when asked to do so. UCLA's use of him makes him a hard watch, but I like him. But he's probably going to be a top ten pick. I've heard this linebacker class is stacked, so we may not need one in round one depending on how the board falls.Wish we were getting ready for a WC game tonight... I'm usually pessimistic , but I was really beginning to believe they could make a deep playoff run and perhaps win the AFC.

As much as I would love to add Jack or a healthy Smith to our offense, there's no way they'd have the impact a quality QB would have. It's not even close. The question is whether Wentz can be that kind of QB. Mac may have to answer that question.

I disagree with you about Goff and Cook. Just because they played in an NFL-style offense don't mean either is ready to play in the NFL. IMO Goff doesn't have the arm and would get broken in half if he tried to play at his present weight. Cook doesn't have the accuracy or fundamentals. He'd possibly break Geno's record of interceptions his rookie season. If Cook is the dick he's purported to be, he'd have his ass handed to him as well. There'd be more than one Ik Enempali lining up to clock him, or just let the man through they're supposed to block and allow Cook to get crushed.
