The coach that led them to 10-6. You guys want to shit on the coach go ahead. I'd love to see you guys chase him out of town.
4 years. My guess is this contract doesn't reach year four. He either shits the bed next seasons and is canned or put on the hot seat for year three (then canned, a mistake as a lame duck coach is a wasted year) or if things go well he renegotiates. Side note, did the coaching staff "changes" yesterday brighten your outlook at all?
Well for Bowles of course thats a no brainer. I wonder who he gets now for ST. I am not a Bowles hater and I want to stay optimistic. The head Coach should be ready to be just that...he better learn from his mistakes
Let's try this again: "Which games did you see that show that the Jets have a good coach?" Please be specific.
Simple because its the NY media that hypes that narrative which is then picked up by ESPN talking heads which supports the oh is me "SOJ." Look my moniker is SOJAZ... I get the gloom and doom but to say this year was not a good year after Wrecks last four and a FO that gutted the team is the epitome of "SOJ."
Did you really think this team was a 10 win team at the beginning of the year? I certainly didn't. We had flaws on the OL, LB core and we had a rookie HC, new staff, new schemes .... Not to mention the wreckage that Wrecks left along with his cohorts in the FO. Mac tried to fix the holes as best as he could - and still had holes. Think about the schemes that were used to cover some of the Def flaws (if you look at how Todd called games the last two years at AZ you'll see he played more zone this year because the DL and slow LB couldn't put pressure on the QB, lost containment on sweep plays and god forbid we cover a RB out on a swig pass or TE over the middle...) then I think the team did better then expected.
Agree for the most part with what you say. However, here is what concerns me : all those third down conversions to greg salas?, Mevi$ no ability to cover Watkins and worse clock management where we could have got points before half No I thought we would be 8-8. So yes 10-6 was good. Not making PO and stupid losses hurt
This coaching debacle rivals anything we ever saw from Herm/Hackett, Rex/Schotty, Coslett, walton......or any of them.
wow, the fans are same old, that's for sure. let this expression go already, along with the woah is me attitude. i've never seen a fan base whine, groan, and turn on their own like this one.
I think he did a decent job this year as a first year hc. He had his bonehead moments, but yeah 10-6 is not a bad improvement. I'm just trying to stay realistic. It was year 1 with some vets. If they can build on last year without regression, that's great. The D isn't as tough as its ranking would lead you to believe. Special teams was a fucking train wreck, and frankly hasn't been worth a shit since westhoff. What I do give not only possibility to, but also a dose of probability, is none of those issues being resolved. Clock management, as trivial as it sounds, seems to elude most coaches we've had. Shit like that will keep them out of the game, and its not even a player. It's the coach sabotage. Just keeping it grounded. Sent from my HTC6515LVW using Tapatalk
No. Don't tell us how that big, dumb, scary thing called "the media" created and maintains the fantasy of the "Same Old Jets." Finish your sentence and tell us why " WE are not the same team that C. Winner, Ken Shipp, Lou Holtz, Walt Michaels, Joe Walton, Kotite, etc. or even Parcells..." Winning a couple of lucky games, losing some lousy games, big mistakes by the players and coaches and no Jets to watch this weekend shouts SOJ to me. If 10-6 would make me happy without a playoff appearance, I wouldn't have been a Jets fan for so long. The results are a little bit better but I see nothing on the horizon to make this team look any more promising than those run by that ship of fools you mentioned.
The expression is not going away on the back of another unsuccessful season. It wasn't created by a witty writer - it grew organically, like a disease and like a disease it may be long term. What have you seen that makes you want to create a new persona for this team? Or are you simply satisfied with mediocrity? There was a time in the late seventies when the team sent out mailings touting the "New, New York Jets," but there was nothing new then and I'm still waiting. I'll be very happy to dump the "Same Old Jets" line, but I need a reason, a real reason.
Did u turn into champ? 31 teams are disappointed every year. If you feel it's super bowl or major dissappointment, then you will generally find seasons miserable. The teams from the 70s have absolutely no bearing on wins or losses today, just as 68 has no bearing. The term is all about whoa is me, and it's really tired. What I'd love to see is a new persona for jets fans.
The expression is "woe is me." It is about people who feel sorry for themselves. I'm not sure when the words "Same Old Jets" first appeared in print, but they were certainly on the minds of Jets fans by the late 1970's. Once again, SOJ is not about the W-L columns, it's about how the team plays, how they win and how they lose. I'm not feeling sorry for anybody, I am feeling, once again, frustrated by a team that can never consistently do things well enough to fight off the monkey on its back. That monkey is the "Same Old Jets" and all your cheerleading won't make it go away. And it certainly won't give me a new persona. Maybe you need to shop for a new team based on its fans' personae.
+10000 TGG fails to see our season of more wins than losses was an illusion. As I have maintained TD was bailed out by the million dollar talent he was handed. Coaches like Dungy, TC, Brian B, or even Bill C take this team to a WC at very least. No playoff appearance 2016 with, I presume more talent, holes plugged by MM etc I want Bowles to go poof. I like CG howevever he did a great job for us this year
dude you are a madman. Bowles, a rookie coach, has been here 1 fuckin year and oversaw a 6 game improvement. Honestly at this point we don't even completely know what kind of coach he is but he's trending upward, not downward, thats for sure. have some perspective for once. you can be disappointed we didn't make the dance but not want to burn this thing down. these comments on Bowles I'm seeing is downright embarrassing oh and tom coughlin can't coach for shit anymore. Bowles, a rookie coach brings his team a 6 game improvement while 97 year old Coughlin singlehandedly blows 6 games with his own decision making and you really make the comments that you do?
Tom C has 2 SB rings and half the talent we had. He had Eli and Becham was double covered. Horrendous defense I don't hate TB, if you look at past posts I was on board with Fitz Gailey Bowles After 1/3/2016 I have major reservations. Second meeting with Rex....terrible prep. No one is "burning anything down" yet. There is nothing mad about my observations. Note that I want to see improvement in Fall and hopefully 2017. Who did we beat ? Depleted Pats and ok Giant team. Our other wins ...meh. However a lot of the losses are on Bowles coaching. TGG were ingame coaching better than him eg clock mangmt The point is talent helped the CS. Imo Gailey is a more competent Coach than Bowles might ever be. Give me examples of Bowles brilliant coaching....?
The best thing about Bowles is how he managed the Qb situation. He said and did all the right things. Says here if he'd screwed it up, the Jets would have only won six games max with you know who behind center. As for SOJ and the Jets missing the playoffs... Yeah the objective is to win the SB. But each season is also made up of single games. That's how we follow the team for the most part. Game time rolls around, and as fans whether at the stadium, home or in a bar we watch and see if the Jets can and do win the game. We obviously enjoy it when they do. That's how the experience plays out, not just how it looks and feels this week after a killer loss and no playoffs. This season the Jets had some particularly enjoyable wins. I didn't expect them to maul Indy, but they did and that was before Luck got hurt. Beating the hated fish twice was also excellent. Then there was beating the other NYC team. And I know Dallas is awful this year, but going into their stadium in a national game and winning is a big deal, and the Jets did that. And I think my favorite was beating NE the second go round. So there were some great moments despite the failure to make the playoffs. It is not all bad.
