Don't know which coordinator did a worse job this year.... Don Pellum, Oregon's DC, or Bobby April? I'll go with Bobby this time.

This needed to happen he was horrendous all year long. Shockingly enough fans from other teams are calling for their teams to hire this guy... Specifically Buffalo and New Orleans. Something must be wrong with them.

Rejoice, glad this move was made, and as early as it was. Bowles and company are not messing around.

Rex'll hire him and they'll troll us even more with a kick return TD.

But seriously, glad Bowles isn't messing around...but that's only a third of the problem. Get rid of Quigley and get someone that can actually return kicks and punts in the draft.

I'm pretty sure April isn't welcome back in Buffalo, either.

Not that i've done any research to the prospects at the position but I wouldn't be against using a 7th round pick to draft a punter. Quigley has to go.

Just looked up his resume on Wiki...it was pretty impressive actually.

    As coach:

Rams he had a ton of talent and the same on the Eagles. He must have worked under Gailey in Buffalo. However he had to go because the unit was so awful. Hopefully we can find a coach who can do more with the talent.

I don't understand how it's so freaking hard for NFL teams to find competent punters/kickers. I mean there's only 120 or so college teams, you'd figure a FEW of them coming into the league would be pretty decent every year.

It seemed like a personnel problem, but moreso who the coach was sticking out there on the punt coverage unit. Cumberland, Powell and Bohannon had no business trying to tackle punt returners, and Quigley has no place in the NFL.

How much of this was Bowles wanting to save his linebackers to rotate, and his extra safeties for heavy coverage sets? April seems like a scapegoat, but if he actively wanted to keep Quigley he can let the door hit his ass on the way out.

Go get that stud college punter in the 5th and all is forgiven with the entire unit because the punt return, kick return and kick coverage units were all fine. Field goals were eh but our kicker went down so what does one really expect.

    Knew that one was coming

When ever a team loses in that way and doesn't make the playoffs, you know someone is going to get fired. They weren't going to fire Gailey because the offense was good and Rodgers did enough on D. The one who free the short stick was the special teams guy this time around

We need a real punter in the worse way.....Id assume Folk will be our kicker next season.Quigleys a free agent ,he won't return especially after that 20 yard disaster punt.Marquette King and Bryan Anger will def be on our radar

I remember hearing Westhoff saying around the time of the last game or so that he met with Woody in his office for a long time and then said " now don't go reading anything into this"
I'm praying this guy comes back !

Jets head coach Todd Bowles has informed special teams coordinator Bobby April, assistant special teams coach Steve Hagen and assistant offensive line coach Ron Heller that they will not return for the 2016 season.

“After having our season-ending meetings with the staff, I decided that changes were necessary in these areas," Bowles said. "I appreciate their contributions this past season and wish them success in the future.”

This was April's first season with the Jets and his 24th as an NFL special teams coach. Hagen was in his third season with the Green & White and his 11th as an NFL assistant. Heller was also in his third season as a Jets coach and his fifth as a league assistant coach.

Good riddance to April. Our special teams were only special in the short bus context.

Yes, it's very nice that Bowles can assess this situation.

Of course, Helen Fuckin' Keller could have made the same assessment.

On a side note, here's where we need Rex to run true to form. Two of those coaches were holdovers so maybe Rex will take the entire set up to Siberia. I hope he signs Quigley too.
