Completely agree with the sentiment -- I think that Amaro's the missing piece to this offense (i.e., he makes at least 50% of the catches that Enunwa and Thompkins dropped). Fitz having starter reps with the entire receiving corps should build the chemistry that took a few weeks of the regular season to develop. Make no mistake, the NYJ will need it next season, against the likes of Seattle, Arizona, Pitt, Balt, Cinci, and KC. Have a feeling that if Fitz puts up 30+ touchdowns while keeping a 2:1 TD:INT ratio, that should be enough for another 10-6 record and a playoff berth.

Starting Fitz from the get-go is smart. Our team will look different and he'll need time to work with it. Amaro will be back, Devin Smith will be back, Enenwa has become a legit threat, etc.

Also, we may have a new RB and right side of the O-Line.

Getting Fitz as many practice reps as possible with his 'new' team can only be a good thing.

The season hasn't ended yet, there are thousand different options that we have going into free agency, the draft, camp etc. to come up with something. I don't get why you'd commit to Fitz a year in advance, makes no sense and is kind of a low blow for Petty, to not even give him a shot to compete next season, you're saying now he's not gonna be ready without really knowing. I just think it's very close minded.

Fitz is going to get close to 15 mil. next year based on what was reported last week by some agents. Don't like that number at all.

If that's the case I wish him well and I'll be rooting for him unless he lands in the AFC East or is playing against the Jets.

Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in line for jaw-dropping contract
If he stays with the Jets, Fitzpatrick, 33, could land a deal that will pay him as much as $12 million annually, according to a prominent agent. He's making $3.25 million this season, the final year of the two-year deal he signed with theHouston Texans.

"He's probably in the $10 million-to-$12 million range," said the agent, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "He's proven he can be effective if the team has enough cap room to spend on key players, keeping the right people around him. Let's call him a B-plus player. If he has A-minus talent around him, it can work.

If it's arond 7-8 mil. I'd do it but anything over 10 or 11 mil. to me is way too much.

"according to a prominent agent.... speaking on condition of anonymity" .... hmmm I wonder who that anonymous agent represents???? lol...

a great way to try to drive up the price for your client is to go to the media. Fitzpatrick aint getting anything close to that kind of money

I am guessing that if a few gms were asked he would be in line for about 5mil a year. I'm predicting somewher around 9 .

First, I don't care about Petty's feelings getting hurt, we went through that shit with Sanchez. If the coaching staff thought Petty was even close to ready, he would have at least been suited up for last weeks game, he wasn't, they don't.

Second, Fitz is the best QB this franchise has had in years (even with his limitations), you don't dump him in hopes that someone else may show up. There are not " a thousand different options", there may be 3-4 NFL "starter" QB options and Brees ain't one of them for us.

Lastly, I said we bring him back, at the worst, he is a very good back-up, if Petty/Geno can beat him out in camp.

You can not go into next year with Geno/Petty as your only for sure QB's on the roster.

The only way you don't bring Ftz back, is to go all in on Petty. Spend the money on a monster O-line and a RB for him. Watching this, he looks pretty damn impressive.

Id love this guy to get a chance ASAP. Marshalk isnt getting any younger nor is Decker. Hate to say it but i wonder what Geno would've looked like if he had targets to throw to when he was a starting rookie.
Rookie QBs need receivers. If petty doesn't start next season and we dont reach the playoffs, chances are deck and marshall are either gone or on the decline.

Fitz can resign 2yrs MAX at the same money or 5mill at tops. Hes getting older not better. Has no deep ball accuracy, decent mid range and good short passing. 2 year contract possibly starting next season only. Final season of his contract Petty starts and Fitz advises from the sidelines. The knowledge from the amount of snaps hes had in his career would be valuable to share with the kid.

12million for a C tier QB is not only desperate its absolutely foolish.

    Not sure if serious.

Anywho...Bowles named him the starter. That's it.

It's a commitment to an ideal, not an absolute. He's not cutting all the QBs on the roster, he's not making absolute assertions that no other QB will play next year, it's a year away.

It's a verbal commitment. A lot can happen in the offseason and if somehow another better option reveals itself, Bowles will do right by the team.

For right now, unless you have another agenda, Fitz is CLEARLY the starter next year.

And I love Petty, but how is it a "low blow" not to elevate him to even completion with an 11 year vet coming off a 31-15 3900 season. If you've read anything about Petty, he us a patient and respectful dude and will accept what the Jets are trying to do with him.

If he comes into next year completely outplaying Fitz, he'll play.

2 years 16M or GTFO .. and that 16M needs to have incentives.

With the way this team is built, it's about winning now. It's already been established that they forego rebuilding in order to be competitive now. So taking on a 37 year old QB with a little gas in the tank in order to be competitive and win now makes sense.

Amaro had a bit of the dropsies the prior year too plus he's not a natural hands catcher.

Another year with Fitz as starter will make Petty a better QB. That's the #1 reason why you do it. Very happy to see another year of Fitz, then slot Petty in as QB in 2017 and tear the AFC East a new arsehole.

I'm sure it's a bi product of the system he was running and his superior arm talent, but when watching his college tapes I can't help but to fixate on his lazy feet in the pocket. I'm a big footwork guy; the Cutler and Stafford types just don't do it for me.

Whether it's Petty or someone we draft [cough...Carson Wentz], our next QB can't let Jimmy Garoppolo kick our arse the way Brady has the last 15 or so years.
