Statistics for Punters are all kinds of messed up. The only one commonly recorded is Yards/Punt. It's great to have a high number here if your offense is always hit for a 3-and-out. Sadly, that's not always the case. If it was, Quigley would be a shoe in for the HOF (Ray Guy's career avg=42.4). The keys to good punting are 1) Consistency, 2) Placement 3) Hang Time, and 4) Distance. Just throwing out Y/P is useless. It's actually worse than useless (like Quigley is worse than Milliner) because it makes bad punters look less bad than they are. A team generally punts somewhere around 70 times a season, so that 6.3 yards/punt spread translates to about 441 yards a season. That's nothing to sneeze at. That's the difference between a 1000 yard receiver and a 659 yard receiver. Teams with bad offenses punt more (and from worse field position), which multiplies the effect (obviously, good offenses punt less, diminishing the effect). I wish someone kept stats for hang time and for punts that pin the receiving team inside their own 20. Would make it much easier to evaluate punters without trying to watch every game. Nobody is going to make a "RedZone" for Punting. ....Thank God....

Quigley is a bad NFL punter....I don't need stats or anything to back that up as I watch way too much NFL around the league like I'm sure many of you do as well He never completely flips field position like I see other teams do to us all the time because he doesn't have a big enough leg. He also chokes at the worst of times (Usually Pats games or times like yesterday when we need a big punt). He is decent at pinning teams I guess but nothing special in that area either I just don't understand how a defensive team like the Jets can go year after year after year with a disadvantage in almost every game at the punter position. We are in tons of games where field position is everything and we are continually behind the 8 ball It needs to be addressed, period
I wanted to go back and look at that year as well but I nearly choked on all the vomit that came up when I looked at 2014 and 2013. I figured if I looked back at Tanny's last few drafts it would have sealed the deal.
In fact, Quigley, tied for fifteenth in the league in number of punts at 75 put 27 of them inside the twenty. mcduck's 'contribution' on special teams yesterday was a 10 yard holding penalty which cost a lot of field position. he almost never made a tackle on a punt and I frankly don't recall one play he made all year. devin smith at least had a receiving td.
punt yardage is a silly stat. if you are punting from the 45 yard line you dont have the opportunity nor do you want to have a super long punt. simply taking into account the number of times inside the 20 doesnt really work to make that stat make sense either. the bottom line is that the guy had no ability to flip field position when he had the opportunity. not just this one game or that one punt. its something that i can recall seeing happen many many times through the year. sure he might come back and kick a 48 yarder the next time but the damage may have already been done by his 38 yard punt the last go around.

Breno, due to his salary vs production I would also like to nominate anyone that had a hand in special teams, from the staff to the lowest man on the depth chart.
IMHO Breno is adequate. He had a bad game Sunday but his ankle was taped and he was questionable to start. There are definitely a lot worse than him. Bohannon comes to mind when you consider that half the NFL teams don't bother with a FB, you'd think a better FB must be available and out there somewhere.
Special teams in general but mostly Quigley. I hope we draft a punter with a late pick, it's worth it for a team with as terrible punting as we have.
Last weekend was perfect example of why people hate Ridley. He got plenty of opportunities and got stuffed or had a very most gain on almost every play. Then an injured Ivory steps in, same line, against the same defense, and springs one for like 50 yards. This year he's been one of those players that whenever he's out there, you know the play is going to fail automatically if they give it to him. If so little is invested in him, why didn't they just look in the free agency during the year? I know there is never going to be much talent available in those situations, but guys have been picked up in middle of this year and have played decently. When you get down to your 3rd runningback, free agent pickups are probably not much different in terms of talent anyways.
