With throwing 2 touchdowns today, he became the Jets All-Time Single Season Touchdown Passes leader with 31. Breaking Vinny Testaverde's record of 29. It was a lot of fun watching Fitzpatrick and the Jets play this season. Tough way to end it today as we all know, but it was a great 2015 season. He more than deserves a new deal and to head into Training Camp as the Jets 2016 Starting Quarterback. Thanks Fitzy!
I definitely want Fitz back next year. With him, Petty and a QB in the draft I think we are set. OL, TE and LB are our priorities, and RB depth.
As a starter. I'd sign him to a two-year deal and look for Petty to step in after next year with Fitz as the backup then.
I actually do feel bad for Fitz though...and McKelvin saying what he did was low-rent especially considering he played with him.
I have to imagine this thread is trollin' hard...or have we Jets' fans really developed "battered wife" syndrome where we defend our abusers?
I feel awful for Fitz because he's such a class act, but, at the end of the day, it's results that matter (please know that I'm one of the older Jets fans....I've been feeling the pain since 1969, each and every year!)
I love me some Fitzpatrick!!!! Can't wait to see what he does going into an off-season as the sure starter. The longer he's on this team, the better for us and Bryce Petty. Hope he gets a long term deal
Is 31 TD Passes really that much of an accomplishment in today's pass happy NFL, where you can't even look at a receiver the wrong way without getting a personal foul or pass interference penalty? As for setting the Jets record, not much of an accomplishment there considering the cast of characters who have preceded Fitz at the position. Congratulating the guy after he and his team laid an egg on the biggest game of the season seems a bit odd though.
Fitz does not have the arm to be a superstar QB like Rodgers etc., I'll give you that. However, how could you possibly see him as one of the negatives this season? Even today-- they were dropping his passes all over the place, passes that hit them in teh hands. Watson running free, stupid penalties, a missed FG... those are all reasons we lost before you get to Fitz IMO. Classy. About what I would expect from a Rex-coached team. I hear you on this. But step back a minute and recall watching our offense and especially QB play for the last 5 fucking years.
It would have been great if it resulted in a playoff berth. Now I just don't care, its just a Jets trivia question now
I like the sentiment and the first part of your post, but disagree with the your statement that he should head into TC as the 2016 starting QB. I'd agree that it's his job to lose, but I think it should be an open competition. Petty, and Geno or whomever the Jets' 3rd QB is deserves the chance to unseat him. Fitz had a great season, but let's not delude ourselves. For the most part, he has the right mental makeup, the leadership skills, the fire and competitiveness we want, but NOT the arm talent. He doesn't have the arm to make the long throws to keep opposing Ds honest, especially in the wind in the NE. Personally, I'm rooting for Petty to shock everyone and win the starting job.
Congrats and great season for Fitz. Hoped for one more week but it wasn't meant to be. Gotta give him his probs nonetheless. One of the best seasons for a NY Jet QB ever. _
I'd say a 2 year deal. No, being a positive and realistic, level-headed, Jets fan is the odd part. Maybe February 2017? Sadly, true. Yeah, agreed. Open competition for sure, but he should go in as the #1. Yep. Agreed. Mad probs!
