If we do miss the cut then I'd be looking back at the Eagles and Texan games as the one's that cost us our shot. This team has played to its maximum potential in almost every game and I couldn't be more happier with our progress this year and if I ever feel like getting involved in a 'toilet bowles' thread or the like I simply watch the Bills game from last year and immerse myself in the sheer horror, depression and futility of that season.
Holy Moly The majority of regular posters late fifties early sixties SMH Ide say we are long overdue for SB
LOL I'm not too surprised. It's pretty much been that way on every Jets board on which I've posted except for the GangGreennation site. Lots of youngsters there.
I just missed '68. Literally one season for me. I wasn't watching in sports in January 1969 and I was on the Amazing Mets like glue later that summer and fall. The next Super Bowl win will be great because I've been waiting a lifetime at this point.
No it wouldn't be a colossal failure, it would be disappointing. Think of the 2011 Jets if you want colossal failure. 8-5 with all the momentum, primed for a playoff push, only to play the worst ball of the season and drop 3 straight as QB, Oline, and WR all completely collapse and eventually implode. 10-6 is very promising and a huge improvement over last year. If that happened, the season wouldn't be a failure, but it would trigger all kinds of annoying talk about whether letting Rex go was the right decision. I already see it as right, because I see the same problems from the Jets over the past 4-5 years now manifesting on the Bills (bad penalties, killer turnovers, poor discipline, poor game management, players talking nonsense to the media, and all kinds of other locker room media leaks). Yes, being swept by Rex would suck, especially if it knocked the Jets out of the playoffs. You know that would lead to the typical Rex "super bowl" celebration, and Gatorade bath which would make it burn that much more. But I am near positive the Jets will not collapse tomorrow. The Bills were lucky to sneak away with the last win. The Jets were banged up last game, and out of sync. These are almost 2 different teams facing off. Seriously, the Bills are in bad shape. McCoy is ruled out, Watkins has been banged up. Rex has lost some of the locker room. Mario Williams already knows he's going to be cut due to media leaks, so it's doubtful he will even care about this game or put forth a full effort. If the Jets don't have numerous turnovers and ST blunders, it will be a multiple score victory. A loss is simply not fathomable at this point, but any given Sunday.
A loss would hurt me really bad Gotta be honest- I'm sadly a pretty bitter fan We had an easy schedule and the Steeler loss to Baltimore was a true gift. I would see a loss to Buffalo as a MAJOR missed opportunity and sadly SOJ That being said- I like Bowles and Magic Mike and believe we will have a competitive team for their tenure. I am proud of how the team looked and played this year as a whole no matter what happens Sunday.
A loss will be bad...and blown up completely out of proportion by the anti Jet media crowd But I like what I see from Bowles & MacCagnan so far, definitely not SOJ there. So that's a start.
I remember being terrified watching that game. I was a bigger Met than Jet fan. So I ha never won ANYTHING before this. And then there was the Knicks as well. I foresaw dynasties everywhere I looked.
Bad losses, but the one we had in our hands was the Buffalo game. An easy chance to go ahead late and we muffed it. We were never in the other games.
The first epic run I really remember, was the Rangers 78-79 run to the Stanley Cup Finals. I was 8 when the Mets won in '69 so I watched it but didn't really appreciate what it meant. The '73 Mets were like an accident that ended badly against the A's in the World Series. The Yankees late-70's noise went down about a 15 minute walk from home but I was an NL fan, due to family loyalties to the Giants from the 40's and 50's and it barely registered until 1980 when Reggie had that great year and I actually started tuning in to watch him bat late in games after I got home from work. You're right about the missed dynasty opportunities for the NY teams. It seems like those moved down the road to Philly with Dr. J.
That's because we have been trained and conditioned to believe the crap that's always been spewed out about the Jets. Need proof? Read Wednesday's NY Post. The headline screamed "Don't Blow it Jets". The Jets beat writer's (Brian Costello) column was about how lucky the Jets have been this year (He picked the Pats to win by 20 last week and he's picking the Bills today BTW). Their top sports columnist 's (Vaccaro) column was that NY will always be a Giant town. It's not even subliminal. You can't pretend that it's easy for Jet fans to see through that crap, because it's all we ever hear. Whatever happens today happens. They should win but they could lose. The good news, IMHO, is that like the '68 Namath led Jets, the current team from the GM, & coach to the players, seems to have what it takes to weather the inevitable storm that a loss will bring., so despite what we might hear, I don't think t will be SOJ. Let's see what happens.
I think it would be a bit of a failure in a way,If your trying to tell the fan base these aren't the "Same old Jets" then you need to win this game. The same old Jets would lose this game. And anytime you don't make the playoffs its a failure either way
It's amazing how this franchise's extended culture of losing has deeply permeated into the fan base. Instead of supporting the team on its successful late season run and enjoying the final game of the regular season, many cynical darksiders are debating whether or not a loss today signals a failed season (a/k/a SOJ). Sure, as a Jet fan you have to prepare yourself for the inevitable disappointment, but why cheat yourself out of some fun by not enjoying the moment? All I am saying is let's first get to the Jets' Bridge of Disappointments prior to crossing it.
