The Jills game might be brutal who knows. But part of me waants to fast forward to playin NE again with all their studs ready, beat them silly and put to rest all their excuses bout today
Why would he maybe throw a chance to clinch home field advantage? For a team they beat once this year? Makes no sense. It was bone headed choice. If it was any other coach the media would be dogging him.
Yup. He was too smart for his own good. Now if they change the rule that both teams get a possession regardless of whether it is a TD or a FG, then deferring makes sense. What is worst case scenario? You are down a TD, but you have a chance to score, essentially making it 4 down territory the entire drive. You could argue that getting the ball first actually puts you at a disadvantage. Your score doesn't end the game, but your opponent's does. Regardless, BB got caught trying to be too cute. Again.
there is absolutely zero reason to ever defer in overtime even if you have some master plan to win by field goal, you are still counting on your defense to make a stop, so either you are playing for the touchdown or you kick a field goal and try to make a stop on d. there is no other course of action that makes sense. even if they stopped the jets then the story would be how lucky the pats are that decision didnt bite them in the ass. its not rocket science, its a situation where the first team to score a td wins the game. there is no reason at all not to take the ball first.
Still makes no sense to me. Even if a TD didn't end the game on the first possession, it puts tremendous pressure on the other team to score a TD on the next possession even with 4 downs.
If Pats didn't want to win this game, Brady and Gronk wouldn't have been out there risking injury. They definitely wanted to win. Don't think the decision to kick is really that bad. Since 2012, the receiving team in OT won 33 of 65 games that didn't end in a tie, so basically a toss up. In the two instances before today where a team elected to kick, including the Pats against Denver, both resulted in wins. Looking at today's game, Pats' offense only managed one TD on the day, and that was with two 4th down conversions. On the other hand, their defense had contained our offense since midway through the 3rd quarter. It seems entirely logical that Belichick would count on his D to get a quick stop and good field position, making it much easier for his offense to drive for a FG. People like to paint the move as a sign of disrespect for our offense, but it's as much a sign of respect for our defense.
Belicheck thought if he won the coin toss he could choose which end of the field his team could kick from. You can clearly hear Slater say "We want to kick off that way". I don't think which way they kicked would have really mattered that much, but maybe Belicheck did. He's a mad genius...ain't he?
Even that wanker Bob Costas was making excuses during halftime of SNF why it was "unfair" to the Putz not to get a chance to score in OT after the Jets won in overtime.
If God willing the Jets go all the way and win a SB do you think Mr Olympics Costas will still be polishing Bellis' balls? Even if we get an AFC championship Media darlings will still be stroking NE in some absurd way
Why would the Patriots want the Steelers out ad the Jets in? The Jets are a BETTER TEAM than the Steelers. If the Patriots would rather have the Jets in the playoffs then the Patriots are stupid...
They wanted to win in a field position game. I guess he was worried a poor series by the Pats would give the Jets position to kick a field goal. He felt his defense could do that and then Brady and the offense could get in position for Gostowski to kick the winning FG, who's missed one kick all year. I would have taken the ball but Belichick probably felt this was the Patriots best shot.
Funny the narrative this morning is "never question the master" or "the guru/genius is always right". Really?Well that dumb decision cost his team the game and if it were any other coach in the NFL they would be calling for his head right now.... Plus not to mention the fact that right after it happened everyone was calling Slater a complete jackass but when they find out BellyChick made the call before the coin was even tossed now its "ugh,I see what he was trying to do"
Well, that makes more sense than "we wanted to lose so that Steelers don't get in". Although considering that you just marched down the field for TD, I still think it was a brainfart.
Keep in mind, that was the only touchdown their offense scored all game and even that drive took a 4th and long conversion. Patriots did not have a good game offensively and just because their one touchdown just happened to be on their previous drive, a drive that was very close to being stopped, does not mean that the Pats were going to do it again in OT....in fact, I say even if the Pats took the ball, the Jets would have still won.
The evil genius blew a tire, running the 1/2 out with 2 timeouts and 1:55, choosing to kickoff in OT, playcalling on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1, shotgun 5 wide, no quick snap QB sneaks, thanks shit for brains
