Stokes you are spot on here. they both deserve punishment, like people say "takes 2 to tango." But i watched the entire game (Eli is my fantasy QB) and though Norman certainly was instigating, at some point Beckham lost his mind and took it way too far. The refs get some blame for not jumping on it early but OBJ was past the point of "gamesmanship" and was a danger on the field.
I didn't realize that Norman was fined, but I think that's totally fair. I totally agree with what you said about ODB. He was out of control the rest of the game. His assaults were repeated and premeditated, not a spur/heat of the moment kind of thing. He was ranting and raving on the sidelines, even to his position coach who was trying to calm him down. The position coach should have gotten in his face, told him to sit down, shut up, and forget about it, or his but would be on the bench for the rest of the game, he'd be fined, and be running gassers at practice for the rest of the season. The NFL definitely has a double standard. ODB should have been suspended for at least the rest of the season, if not also the first couple of games of next season. What he did was worse than smoking pot. I hope he also received a HEFTY fine. His actions were like a street thug who when he doesn't like the way someone looks at him, assaults, stabs, or shoots that person.
Nice!!! We can call it "The Beckham box". Maybe even get OBJ to be the feature in a commercial for the cushions used in there. Imagine the mophead saying "the cushions for my box as always are provided by xxxx"
LOL A new way for the NFL to generate advertising revenue! It would also be like Time Warner's commercials making light of all the past ways in which their customer service absolutely sucked and was a disgrace, and making light of the fact that they SHOULD apologize to their customers and former customers, rather than mocking those who complain. I hope they go bankrupt. Instead of "The Beckham box" maybe we could call it the "Rosie O'Donnell box" (or substitute the name of any gross woman) and make the player have to look at pictures of that woman's "box" during the penalty time. I guess that would be considered cruel and inhuman punishment however.
Ron Jaworski @jawsespn 16m16 minutes ago NFL Films BREAKING NEWS: Odell Beckham suspension to be OVERTURNED! (Per sources in NYC) Wow!
I bet NBC wasn't too pleased with the prospect of the game missing its #1 star. A few phone calls later...
total disgrace. Beckham was acting like an entitled and petulant child. was embarrassing to see, and the refs and/or coaches should have put a stop to it. but they were afraid to, and now the league apparently is afraid to respond as well, meaning things like this will continue to occur. the league either doesn't have the ability, or the stomach, to regulate star players who tarnish the integrity of the game (Br*dy, Beckham...). money takes priority over integrity.
To really drive home the point, the NFL should take the $26,000 from Norman and give it to Beckham. What a farce. _
My guess is he got off easy because he has no history of this behavior. If he does something like this again he'll have a much larger issue. That is the only possible explanation.
As they say, amazing but not surprising. I have family from Philly who are big Eagles fans, but I have to admit to hoping that Washington beats them on Saturday so the Giants get no meaningful advantage from having Beckham out there on Sunday.
Ron Jaworski @jawsespn 1h1 hour ago Mount Laurel, NJ Sorry, Still waiting on final OFFCIAL release on OBJ. I'll leave the reporting to our true pro insiders @mortreport and @AdamSchefter
That body slam looks like he just got him off balance and let go, nowhere near as bad as targeting the other players head with your helmet. Add on the other swings OBJ was taking and he certainly deserves a game if not more. I could see maybe a fine for Norman for the swing he took as well as dropping OBJ but he did absolutely nothing to deserve a suspension. Beckham has been known to take shots at players, he is a prima donna douche bag and got what he deserved.
Seriously. It'll probably take a star player getting his season ended or career ended before the NFL has the balls to do something about it. Hopefully, it won't come to that, but it probably will unless told the umpiring crews that they'd better not ever let a situation get out of control like that again, or it will be their ass that is fired, and not just suspended.
Christian @seng225 6s6 seconds ago Christian Retweeted Ralph Vacchiano So @jawsespn and @lt4kicks were wrong. Beckham will miss Sunday's game as suspension is upheld
There's so many cynical reasons for me to believe they will overturn the suspension - NBC, players working on the appeal committee attacking Goodell on another 'unprecedented' suspension, the Mara's influence and PC pacification after all the nonsense about the slurs came out. EDIT: Well at least the right thing was done in the end
