To answer your first question, I saw the original when it was re-released in 1981 I think, I was about 6 years old at the time. Then, as anyone who grew up in the 80's can attest, it was a big part of my life through Empire and Jedi, and to this day I still consider the original series to be so much more than just movies; they were a cultural phenomenon probably on the same level as Woodstock for kids who grew up in the 60's, and I think bigger than the Harry Potter series for kids today. It was always Star Wars, and then far behind every other movie that paled in comparison. So Star Wars was always so much more than just "a movie". But as far as comparing the original to Empire and Jedi, I was a kid in elementary school through all of them, so all 3 were magical and nostalgic for me. But Empire always left me with an "empty feeling" at the end, wanting more. It felt incomplete, and really it was; it was a kind of "connector piece", or bridge between the original and Jedi. Both the original and Jedi had triumphant endings where the rebels destroyed the dark side, seemingly at least. They were satisfying endings, while Empire left you kind of depressed in a way at the end, with a wounded Luke and his rebel friends floating through space aimlessly, Vader still at large, and the Empire not even close to being defeated. In fact, the good guys were LOSING at the end, and seemed to be in dire straits...and we're left with that! Plus, it was dark throughout, the ominous cloud of the Dark Side hanging over a struggling rebellion. My favorite parts of the movie are the scenes on the Degobah system where Luke begins his training with Yoda, that's really the highlight of the movie for me, and secondarily the exciting scenes in the beginning on the ice planet Hoth. But the rest of the movie feels more like a dark gothic novel than a Star Wars film; a necessary chapter in the saga I suppose, but easily the least satisfying, at least for me. The original had everything you could want in an epic adventure, just perfect from start to finish, and is a standalone masterpiece that didn't really need any sequels, though I'm certainly glad we have them! If you go back and watch it again you will be reminded of how charming and elegant it is, and how the triumphant ending and perfect musical score gives you epic goosebumps! ...and if you haven't seen the original trilogy oh boy you are in for a treat, so by all means dig in and enjoy! What I wouldn't give to be able to time travel back and enjoy the original trilogy for the first time again! (and yes I'm aware that if I time traveled back to the 80's Marty McFly style, I would have still seen them before but you get my point)
We have a spoiler thread: http://forums.theganggreen.com/thre...-spoiler-thread-enter-at-your-own-risk.85864/
AM movies are the way to go man! That's all I do now except the occasional early PM movie. No night movies anymore for me! Just way simpler and quieter during the day. The night can be utilized for "other things"...
I understand what a big deal this is to SW fans, but did anyone else find this whole Spoiler scare unintentially funny? .... I mean, someone screws up and posts spoilers in the wrong thread, the sirens go off, SPOILER SPOILER sound the alarm!!, EMERGENCY, SOS, ....someone remove that post ASAP! Like the Cuban Missile Crisis or one of those Terror threat emergency color codes.......sorry it just struck me as funny! (of course I'm safe, I saw it already) ...btw, thanks to our fearless Admin, the threat has been removed, it's safe to go back in the water now.
I can't find the Star Wars thread merge if you want first teaser is out looks sick http://arstechnica.com/the-multiver...e-brings-on-those-old-school-star-wars-feels/
Do you remember watching A New Hope? Remember the opening credits where they said the rebels stole the plans/map for the Death Star Thats what this movie's core plot is about. It's supposed to be a space mission type, I am excited. I want to see more NON-Force characters in the universe. Also, gotta love the Forrest Whitaker and his eye. You know shit is real when you get the Whitaker eye.
Actually I like this story...ALOT, I want to see this because it introduces alot of characters. Also, give Star Wars Rebels the cartoon on CN a chance, it is incredibly smart and central to the core Star Wars universe. Its incredible actually. It may bring characters from that into this. (That show takes places 5-6 years before A New Hope) Now, a new Han Solo movie is one I cannot fucking take...Give that a rest please. Harrison will always be the true Han. BUT bring back Ewan Mcgregor and make a film with him in his hermit years on Tatooine
Ewan was the one acting cast they got right. I'm down for this story I just hope it doesn't overdo it with the Death Star stuff like FA. Since I was a kid I always wanted them to do a movie about the bounty hunters. It would need to be very dark, I doubt Disney would do it.
Trailer looks good. All the Jedi's are gone. The Galaxy now dominated by the Empire. Maybe, Vader will be in it too. Rogue I are the rebel elite pilots. This story is their attempt to steal the empires plans for the Death Star. Should be a darker story than force awakens. A darker time in the galaxy, no hope in heros or Jedi's. Should be interesting , I'm in
