What a night... I was roaming the game day thread tonight and had to leave the house at 10:40PM to catch the 11:30PM showing. I was on edge the whole time at theater line looking at my phone to get Jets vs Cowboys updates. As we went inside the theater and sat down and literally RIGHT before the screen turned to movie previews I saw the Jets won on a INT to close it out. I was so jubilant that I could finally relax and put my mind at ease to watch one of the most anticipated films of mine of all time. It freaking delivered! All props to JJ Abrams in doing a fantastic job. Some things I noticed: -FIRST... It was ruined to me on Twitter and on facebook comments that Kylo killed Han. Some asshole posted a photo of it and posted it on Twitter. It had been on my mind for a few days, but I had a feeling it was coming. Harrison always said he wanted Han to die. I guess they made it work. - Was surprised to learn that Kylo was Han's son. That took me aback...Kylo was badass, but more importantly he was very very interesting character because he was conflicted to the Light. That is totally different. Him bitching out and having temper tantrums led me to believe he hadn't even hit 20 years of age yet. Adam Driver was excellent. Look forward to seeing him perform in more movies. - Daisy Ridley stole the show...She is a perfect lead and they made a great character. As soon as I saw the lightsaber call her out at Maz Kanata's place and they showed flashbacks it felt like she was Luke's blood and was kept in hiding. -Finn was great as well...I can't tell if there will be a romance connection with Rey, but they def are going to be best friends. -Damn it was a punch in the gut to see Chewbacca's reaction to Kylo killing Han. Excellent sequence. -Phasma was a total waste of a character...There must be some extended edition (I HOPE) that explores her character a bit more -Snoke like everyone said felt out of place...Maybe they took a prequel character and we will learn more about him. Felt like too much CGI on him. He looked scarred, maybe he had some battles with other Jedi's? or Luke? - General Hux was too young to be a general I thought...They should have gotten someone older - I was shocked, like really shocked at how well Finn and Rey could keep up with Kylo Ren in their lightsaber duels...Wow, it feels like they gave Kylo NO TRAINING. That is why Snoke was like "Bring Kylo to master his training or whatever". But he really should have been a bit more commanding. I get that Rey had the force guide and overwhelm him but Finn is the ultimate multi-tasking former Trooper. -Luke looked good man, they sent Rey to him (obvious daughter) he had tears. -As for Poe... What else is there to say but he is the best ....damn pilot in the resistance. FOR FUTURE FILMS: - Hopefully they explain Luke's love interest and we meet that character - What happened to the other Knights of Ren? I hope we have them as the main lead while Kylo goes into training to become Vader-esque - Luke vs Snoke is a obvious set up for the trilogy - Luke will train Rey and I think Kylo will fight Rey and like someone mentioned I think he will become good at the end. That is Star Wars, he won't have a complete evilness overcome him. But he did kill his father, that is not right -Hope to see more of the Dark Side explored -Bummed that new Death Star was blown up in this film, but it was way too powerful. Wow -Please keep more practical effects and have JJ involved with the writing! -Give us more Poe
As somebody who has never given Space Battles a chance, I would like to say you're welcome for this genius idea I came up with in the other thread. Now enjoy yourselves! As I begin my quest of 7 films to watch for the 1st time, muahaha the jealousy must be strong.
11am at my local theatre with reserved recliner seating! Fresh popcorn and no assholes to deal with! May the force be with us..
I slept on it...I have a new theory... I think Luke is now NOT the father of Rey, she was one of his young students that he saved before the Knights and Kylo got to everyone. In his sad state I think Luke hid her away. I think Luke kept true to his Jedi faith and truly went into herb mode all these years and basically saved this girls life. She was someone that may have her own background, but someone born with the force. Ben/Kylo simply did not have the force come to him and was probably taught the dark side ways to make him more powerful. You can just tell he wants to be someone worthy. He ain't no Vader...yet at least
I think he is the father. When she touches the light saber, she has flashbacks to her childhood. In one of the flashbacks, it looked like she was abandoned on a sandy planet, just as Luke was, and Kylo Ren was there, who Luke was training. She had a more powerful force than Kylo Ren. I think she inherited that from Luke. Also remember when Kylo Ren was about to enter her mind to find the map he taunted her and said that when she has trouble falling asleep she imagines an ocean with an island in the middle. Same image where she found Luke
It could easily be a memory of Luke leaving her behind when he had to run away. I get that she has really deep memories of the Knights of Ren killing and then her childhood. But a girl like her would have flashback of Luke being her dad too. They did keep it open-ended, she always was like "My family will come get me." I think if she was Luke's daughter then Leia would have known, Han would have known. But you may be right too...It was not clear cut.
Agreed but I think by showing memories of Luke, it would spoil the discussion we and millions of people are having. That would make the answer too easy. It's a hard call. You could argue it both ways. It just makes too much sense to me that she's his daughter. The family comments, the force more powerful than Ren, the flashbacks, the mind reading of the island where Luke was, the ability to fly a ship and know all the mechanics of it, etc.
Rey has to be related to Luke. Most likely his daughter. She looks just like her grandmother. I doubt that was an coincidental casting. Also on a desert like her father and grandfather. The family is know for twins though too. Could she be Han and Leia's daughter and twin sister of Kylo Ren? Possible too but as pointed out earlier, Han and Leia would have known you would have to believe.
Someone said in a online review...recall the trailer with Luke voiceover....Force is strong with the family. So I'm changing my mind again. Rey is related to Luke lol
The voiceover was just Luke talking to Leia in Return of the Jedi, but yeah, that is in the trailer. Haha. It would be cooler and more satisfying for her to be related to Luke. You never know though. I assumed Episode VIII would come out December 2018, instead it is being fast-tracked to May 2017. Hope that does not hurt it's quality.
At the end of it all...Star Wars is a Skywalker story. Rey Skywalker There was definitely a hidden meaning in using that voiceover. "You have it"...damn right Rey getting the lightsaber was epic. That is some Skywalker shit
Haha yep. Another point proving she is Luke's daughter. The force is strong with you, Poeman, just let it in! New Profile Pic? VERY INTERESTING ARTICLE: http://www.techtimes.com/articles/1...force-awakens-who-is-supreme-leader-snoke.htm
I had the running theory that like what the emperor did to create Anakin, Luke did to create Rey, until i read the plot, she has to be a Skywalker. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Didn't like the movie at all, other than the Kylo Ren and Han Solo moment. I was thinking at the end Rey is Luke's daughter as well; that would certainly make me interested in the next movie.
It's not a reboot, it's a straight sequel. A reboot is when you start the series over, this is simply continuing it.
True... Still loved it. Great references to the legacy. Rey is indeed Luke's daughter. I'm wondering if the Fin has the force too. He sure knew how to use a lightsabre..
