He's still a major piece to this defense being successful, is he capable of doing the things he did earlier in his career? Sometimes yes, depending on who he is covering. All the time, no. He's still fundamentally sound and he's a very good tackler. If he stays healthy and wants to continue playing I could see him eventually taking the Woodson route and converting to safety down the road.

If you were picking a fantasy team from '09 you'd go for Revis without question, in '15 you might have to consider a couple of other names like Peterson, Norman, Sherman etc.. If its a matchup with the Megatrons, Marshalls and Bryants of the world then I'd still pick Revis.

All players get older and their skills erode but there is no way to tell how much at this point. The writers and media need a story. This is this week' s meme. Forget it. It has no importance.

He definitely isn't the player he was in 2009, but he is still one of the top CBs in the league.

Revis has not declined. He is just protecting his interests: himself.

The effectiveness of any DB is directly related to the amount of pressure the D line gets on the QB. Given time to throw almost any NFL QB can make any DB look bad. In the Texan game we saw how a 3rd string QB teaming with top WR was able to make Revis look bad because he had time to throw. This year, the Jets have been singularly lacking in ability to get pressure on the QB with their front D line. To me, this is more revealing than whether Revis has lost any coverage skills.

The jets have never had a dominant pass rusher since John Abraham. This has been going on for years. They only get pressure when they blitz. Even without a dominant pass rush, Revis has still shut down the opposing receivers. It's obvious this year he has lost a step. The old Revis would never get burned 2x n one game like he did by Hopkins. Just call it for what it is.

Very true, but under Rex, the Jets seemed to have the blitzes dialed up a lot more. It seems to me that Bowles is relying more on his front 3 or 4 to get pressure on the QB.

Revis has definitely lost a step, but the reason behind getting burned is that he's not jamming receivers even a 10th of what he used to.

He plays off, tries to affect the route and then plays for leverage, and it doesn't work when the receiver kicks in his top gear in his third step.

Revis made his name by demoralizing receivers within the 5 yards past the LOS and he just doesn't do it anymore.

Maybe I'm wrong but Revis seems to be biting hard on double moves this year looking for interceptions.

This is spot on...Revis is playing off guys and biting hard on double moves looking for INTs...he has lost a step yes but overall his numbers are still top of the league.... he just seems to be looking for INTs rather than shutting guys down.

Does anyone know how long Mevi$ has a contract with us?

I still believe he shilled Mac into paying him...also, he got his SB with the Cheatriots

As I recall, Bowles told Mac to get him the 2 shutdown corners in Slowmartie and Mevis

Well we see how thats worked out lol

Cro redeemed himself a bit last game lettse if he keeps it going today

maybe stories in the news and this get DR pumped for his return

Yes he's declined...... But he's still probably somewhere around top 5 in terms of the best at his position.

Obviously as human beings we all age and get older so it's an irrelevant statement to make if you aren't referencing his play or ability. I'm curious why you would bring that up if it isn't in regards to his play and ability, rather than just his irrelevant biology, and if so there would seem to be contradictory argument that you concede that he has aged but not regressed. Saying that he has aged would inherently refer to regression, just that it is due to his age.

Aging does not result in regression every time. If a player has his best year of his career in his fourth season, did that player not age from season 1?

I was simply pointing out that he has gotten older but I disagree he has regressed. I referenced his age, because as I stated, there are many articles about his age and potential regression
