Unless Karma is on her period, I don't think Geno sees the field again in a Jets uniform. I won't go so far as to say he'll never get another shot as some team will take a flyer on him BUT, his days as a starting Qb might well be over. As I've said before, cut the kid loose and let him get on with his career at the end of this season. There's no future for him here so I think the Jet organization should show some class and let the kid move on just like they have already. Do us all a favor Macc.. Free Geno!

Yeah that so fair to compare 2 year player to a 10 year vet.

I don't think the Jets do cut Geno. I think he and whoever else is in TC next season battle it for the starting job. People seem to forget Bowles did have Geno as the starter before TC even started last year. If Geno really has improved like they say he did during TC. Then why cut a young QB? Still coming very cheap.

Although all of that maybe true, Depending on how Fitz finishes this season, the probability of Geno competing for a starting spot are pretty slim. They may not cut Geno, but his road back to being a viable option as a starter is a long one.

Geno will be cut only if the coaching staff believe Petty is ready to play and can at least be a back-up.

If he can there is no reason to keep Geno around.

Also, if you consider points only scored by the offense (ie. take away all of the defensive and ST return TD's) the Jets offense actually ranks 7th in the league. The average offensive output on offense is 24.6 points per game.

Conversely, if you look solely at points given up by the defense - discounting special teams TD and TD's scored by the other teams defense (the Jets defense obviously should not be responsible for those points) the Jets defense has actually given up ~ the 5th least amount of points a game. The average amount of points would work out to 18.3 points per game.

The Jets will cut Geno pretty quickly after the season if there's a campaign to promote him as the starter. There's no point in having a pre-season QB controversy over a guy that has pretty much been written off by the organization. Particularly when he has nobody pounding the table to put him in.

Exactly why I stated above the team should cut ties with Geno and let him try to resurrect his career somewhere else. With Fitz playing at this level, the only real conversation at Qb is who's gonna back him up. If the Geno option was so bad that they stuck with Fitz after a surgery on a broken thumb, that speaks volumes. Geno didn't do himself any favors in the Oak game either.

If this Organization cut ties with Tebow, Sanchez and Pennington, they certainly can cut ties with Smith. IMO, its the best case scenario for both Geno and the Jets as it removes any potential Qb controversy and clears a path for Petty to start attending Advanced NFL Qb 201.

I don't believe that. For one reason....This coaching stuff knows they need to try and find a QB who will be here for years and we both know that Fitz won't be. I think he gets another shot not saying he will win it.

    The hell you talking about?

    He's not 40.

    He's not 38. Or 36.

He's younger than Eli, he's the same age as Big Ben and Rivers and a year older than Aaron Rogers and Alex Smith.

He could absolutely be the QB for the next 2-3 years.

I'd rather see Petty sooner rather than later but we don't "know" Fitz won't be here for a few more years.

the jets would be absolutely foolish to let fitz walk. they finally have a competent qb after years of pathethic qb play. if someone else can out play him they will. until the fitz should stay.

if any qb is walking next year it better be geno

This is the thing I dont understand. Fitz is 33. He is having a career year and is in the prime age for a QB.
Has he thrown a pick 6? Not yet I dont think (touch wood.)
Has the team been efficient in the red zone? Absolutely.
Has Fitz made plays to keep the Jets in games/win games? Surprisingly, yes he has.

If he plays at current levels he is a decent starter for a few years. You don't bet the farm on him like Buffalo did but you certainly keep him.

This way. you can use the cap to rebuild the offense line, add a few weapons like a RB/TE and see if you can make a run.

And once Petty is ready the players around him are ready to rock and roll. Fitz can backup Petty and you have a nice thing going.
