Could be that the Mets are looking to trade Flores or are unsure of his status with the fractured ankle. Either way, Cabrera does provide depth and both him and Walker are switch-hitters.
I dont mind the signing but the contract makes it seem like they want him as the starting SS. I wouldn't mind keeping Flores around as a backup SS/2B but can do without Tejada. Flores has some great upside but needs to improve defensively. Maybe they view Cabrera as a guy that can teach him the position? Especially since they are both Venezuelan. Either way, defensively we upgraded big time with these two acquisitions. To go from bad to average up the middle, works for me.
Mike Puma @NYPost_Mets Nothing from what I seen and read about Cabrera suggest that he's a better defender than Flores. He's an older more expensive Flores. His bat might be a little better but not enough to justify the contract, imo.
It's a two year deal that shouldn't impact our ability to sign our top priorities -- our pitchers, in three years. Seems like a decent signing.
Prioritizing depth maybe? He can play 3rd to spell Wright. I'd like us to re-sign Uribe and maybe even make a run at Parra. Maybe Flores's fracture is worse than we know. Wouldn't surprise me
Not a year- over 2 years. If they gave him $18.5MM a year I would have assumed the Wilpons had sold the team. _
I think Astro Bubble and Walker are awesome pick ups...Stop overthinking the move, I do think this gives the Mets an opportunity to trade Flores/Tejada to get a bat. I think Gardner would be great with your team...Lets talk Wheeler for Gardner
The move is solid. But we are fucked on offense. Who is our guy who scares other teams? Duda? The guy is so hot/cold. Wright? We'd be lucky to get 115 games out of him. Travis? Yeah, maybe 20ish from him. We don't have a 30 HR guy who scares opposing teams.
I think the theory is you'll have Conforto for a full year and he should be better, you'll have d'Arnaud for a full year and he should be better, hopefully you'll have Wright for a larger part of the season and maybe he's better, hopefully Duda becomes more consistent and Walker and Cabrera give us a little more pop with Flores supplying pop in a utility role at 2nd, SS and 3rd. Lot of hoping going on there. _
Here's to hoping we don't need to rely on the long ball and can win with defense and pitching. Then again we lost so many 1-0 games last year before the Cespedes infusion. We'll see what else Sandy has up his sleeve in regards to the outfield and bullpen
Lol just saw this: http://www.amazinavenue.com/2015/10/15/9540777/yoenis-cespedes-bat-flip-baseball-t-shirt-mets GIVE ME MY T-SHIRT NOW!! On Monday night, Yoenis Cespedes hit a three-run no-doubt-about-it home run that extended the Mets' lead. It was gone from the moment it hit the bat. What's more, Cespedes knew it was gone, and promptly executed a bat flip for the ages. First there was the flip, and now there's the shirt. The shirt is nearly as awesome as the bat flip itself. Grab yours now fromBreakingT, our t-shirt partner. It's available in sizes ranging from small to 3XL, so we've got you covered. GIVE ME MY T-SHIRT NOW!!
Well the Cubs are positioning themselves as the team to beat by getting both Lackey and Heyward, not sure that'll put them over but they are looking to be much better than last year
