I'm reading tons of articles now saying Revis has declined and is in no way the same player he used to be. Now obviously he has aged and is getting older but I just wanted to hear Jets fans thoughts on this.

I don't agree with this at all.

It's obvious he has regressed. But he's still one of the best at his position.

Physically yes, there's no way to avoid that. He's smarter than ever and still very good though.

Covering Hopkins 1 on 1 in Cover 0 is a bad idea any way you spin it. Especially with that play call bluffing the blitz in Cover 0 that was just terrible.

he hasn't looked the same this last month as he has in years passed but we'll see how he looks down the stretch. His season isn't written yet.

He's got 2 big opportunities in particular to prove people wrong with major playoff implications, for example. If he completely erases Dez Bryant and Sammy Watkins and the Jets come up with big wins there making the playoffs because of it, well then there won't be much talk about him declining anymore.

People like to mistake regression with accusing a player of being terrible.

In his prime, Revis took on just about every top 5-10 receiver and kept them to something like 3 or 4 catches for 45 yards or less. He can't do that anymore. He was about the only player in the world that could do it, and has ever been able to do it.

He's still a very good player. But he is no longer as good as he once was.

It's obvious if you watch every game. Did you just decide to not watch some of the games this year? The old Revis would of never gotten torched by Hopkins 2x like that in one game.

Definitely has. There's still not 5 CB's Id take over him though.

He's still the best CB in football. He's just not the best CB in a football by a mile.

yes, he's declined. Doesn't mean he isn't good. But I really noticed it in the Raider game. Cooper didn't have great stats but he was beating Revis on more than a few plays. Also Sammy Watkins had him by three steps and dropped the ball in the Bills game. Revis looks a half step slower to me.

There is a huge difference between "declining" and being terrible.

He isnt playing at a greatest of all time level anymore, but he's still damn good. Might just need some assistance when covering the 25 year old studs.

I'm sure he would decline a Player Option if he had one. Hit that open market baby! Seriously though, Revis is still the best CB in the NFL if you asked me. Revis Island was coined because no other CB can do what he does. Now you have these fast WR like Hopkins or Beckham and its almost impossible to put them on an island. More a reflection of today's game, than Revis suddenly struggling or declining.

Josh Norman and Patrick Peterson are both better at this point

Is he as good as he was in 09? No. Is he still a great cornerback? Hell fucking yes.

That is bullshit. You mean Josh Norman on the 12-0 Panthers and Patrick Peterson on the 11-2 Cardinals? Yeah, those teams wouldn't contribute to their successes at all.

That's not bullshit lmao. More like those teams are that good because of them. Peterson is the best player on that defense and Norman is the 2nd best on his only because the best LB in the league plays on that team.

Until Josh Norman does this for more than 1 year, he isn't better than Revis.

The analysts that know what they are generally talking about have said that Revis has not really lost much at all. He might not be in 09 form but he is still a top CB in the league playing at an all pro level. Many of the times he got "burned" haven't really been his fault, it's been more about communication mishaps. Defense is a team effort, it's not all on one guy.

We've always known that Revis isn't a speedster, and is more about technique. That's the reason Cromartie was originally brought in to compliment him. He will get burned without safety help on the back end against fast WRs. Even in '10 he got burned by Randy Moss on that TD. It's going to happen. Even the best CBs in the league get burned from week to week. Can you really say that Revis gets burned often for TDs? If so then surely Richard Sherman has regressed as well because he's been burned multiple times for touchdowns this year, and just last year he was touted as the best in the league by many.

Put Revis on those Defenses, he is doing just as good if not better. Put Peterson or Norman on Jets D and they are not playing as well. That is all I am saying. All 3 great of course.
