The usual optimistic prediction from Dick. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/page/32for32x151209/late-season-predictions-all-32-teams-nfl The Jets will split their remaining four games to finish 9-7, falling short of the playoffs for the fifth straight year. Ryan Fitzpatrick will close out the year entrenched as the starting quarterback, but he'll fall short of Vinny Testaverde's team record for touchdown passes in a season (29). Fitzpatrick currently trails by seven. -- Rich Cimini
I'm worried about tracking down Mariota once he gets out of the pocket. Our LB's are slower than he is. I'm thinking putting Skrine on the field to spy him or free up Pryor to focus on Walker wouldn't be a bad idea.
whatever they did in the second half of the buffalo game to limit Taylor's rushing and keep him in the pocket, they should do sunday against Tennessee. Problem is Tennessee will be watching that game film looking to exploit it but that second half was the best the defense has looked against a scrambling QB all year
If I were Tennessee, I'd be looking closer at the Houston game to exploit the Jets, they already run a gimmicky offense, throwing in a few trick plays would probably kill us.
good point. Trick plays are always a concern with a Mike Mularkey team anyway. That guy runs more trick plays than anyone. Mularkey also cut his bones in Pittsburgh with and under Gailey so he'll know a thing or 2 about what Gailey likes to do. But Idk how much of a factor that will be as that was like 20 years ago. Gailey's been in the league so long with so many teams there's probably a guy on every team's staff that worked with him at one point
Mariota is 4.52 in the 40. I think you have to spy him with somebody who can race him to the sideline if necessary. Hitting him with Richardson when the other guy has tracked him down sounds like a great idea.
It's not a race, 40 time doesn't mean much. As a QB spy you play the qb knowing where he can run based on your defensive front and secondary. Sheldon did it in college and matched up against Johnny football and shut him down. Sheldons a lot more athletic then he looks
Jets win 3 of the next 4 I think they will make it since I don't see the Steelers winning 3, probably 2. Not at Cincinnati and vs. Denver plus 2 more division games, no matter the year Baltimore and Cleveland are always tough. Baltimore has beat them 4 out of the last 5. Colts and Texans play each other so only one can win 4 if they win out, the other at best 3-1. Chiefs have the best chance of going 4-0 but they still have Oakland to play and never know when they play the Chargers. Pretty confident if the Jets go 3-1 they have at least the 6 seed, 5th seed would be excellent since likely they would play the Colts or Texans but that is an outside shot.
would be nice if usually decent teams like the Chargers and Ravens could get their heads out of their asses and knock off the Chiefs and/or Steelers for us
I enjoyed how other teams had predictions on stats, while the Jets prediction is squarely about missing the playoffs.
Seems like most in this thread are overlooking the Titans this Sunday... While they aren't the greatest team, they are in the NFL.. I wouldn't take this game lightly..
Hard to believe that this time last year are ambition was to lose to the Titans so we might have a shot at Mariota or Winston.
If the Jets win the next two vs Titans and Dallas then MetLife better be crazy loud for the Patriots the following week. Instead of what I continue to see. Empty seats, people constantly moving......lifeless
Only bad fans. The really true fans were hoping to get to that magical 4-12 mark. At all costs. And the payoff was awesome getting there. I mean, can you imagine how shitty you'd feel 10-12 years from now had we sucked so bad back in 2014 that we went 2-14? And had to settle for Marcus Mariota? Fans that were hoping for that are disgraceful. _
