its hard to improve when your roster gets worse and worse, you lose your best player to injury and you have mark sanchez at QB. all this "Rex didnt put players in position to succeed" yet he won heavily and has more playoff wins then any coach in jet history. not to mention having top defenses/run games. you say that like rex's teams never hung tough or came back. how about coming back down 14 against the texans with liek 6 minutes to go during the second playoff run, or the following week another huge comeback vs the lions. how about beating the pats in NE after they trounced us like 45-3 the prior meeting? to try and pretend Rex's teams were not resilient is just ignoring history/facts. also, this jets team has failed to take advantage more then once in losses. like crapping out against the bills after they tried to gift us the win vs. buffallo i pointed out several facts. you ignoring them is the only trolling.
so when couples sucks/doesnt care under rex, rex sucks. when couples sucks/doesnt care under bowles, bowles is good and its just couples in uncoachable. yeah no double standard there Taking a lead into the second half in the AFC championship game isnt closing in on a superbowl? being 30 minutes away isnt closing in on one? Beating Tom Brady in New England in the playoffs nothing to brag about? Beating Peyton Manning in Indy in the playoffs nothing to brag about? Let me know when bowles does either of those and then we can start making the comparisons. Rex has plenty of flaws, but to ignore what he did here, and to put bowles on a pedistal over a 7-5 start is just idiotic
Mark and that front office choose Mark Sanchez. And no, they didn't put Mark in position to succeed because they didn't provide the weapons for him to thrive, instead they drafted players like Kyle Wilson and projects like Ducasse. What he did in the first 2 years was gravy, but the fact of the matter is he didn't improve as a HC. I was a Rex supporter just like you, but his inability to improve was his downfall. What about 2011 season? How did we look down the stretch? 8-5 with control of our playoff hopes and we completely collapsed. We won't even talk about 2012 because that team was awful all around. Rex's teams were not resilient, not like the Jets I see this year. Rex was too stubborn not to make lineup changes and half time adjustments.
We were closing in on a SB appearance, not a SB win. Those memories are nearly a 1/2 a decade ago - time to move on. He ended up hurting as more then helping us as time went on. His biggest flaw was his inability to IMPROVE, that's a HUGE flaw. I see Bowles as a complete opposite. i'm rolling with Bowles and I can give 2 shits about Rex Ryan at this stage.
@jerseyjay14 thinks Rex Ryan coached only 2 seasons here and failed to forget all the awful decisions he's made since that season.
1/2 a decade is only 5 years. lets not pretend like it was the namath era. And i never said we were closing in on a superbowl win, i said we were closing in on a superbowl. as far as an "inability to improve" i mean, its hard to improve on getting to back to back afc championship games. basically he needed to make the superbowl to improve, hard to do when your roster keeps getting considerbly worse. again, rex isnt without flaws, but it isnt really a knock to say he never got us to a superbowl, since it was a great feat of coaching to even get as far as he did. we were an underdog in all 4 playoff wins and not many have gone into gillette in january and come out with a win if you didnt give a shit about rex you wouldnt be dragging him through the mad the entire thread. as far as bowles, he could absolutely prove to be better then Rex. My point was that he isnt there yet, has a long way to go to get there, and most of the issues people had with Rex are still issues under bowles
i didnt forget the last 2 seasons, you just ignore the first two. I've criticized rex a ton as i have also praised him. you just want to bash him, and ignore all the flaws bowles had that you bash rex for.
The NFL is all about what have you done for me lately, and in terms of that, Rex ain't do shit. Congrats Rex for getting us in 3rd place! See here is where you fail, improving as a HC is not just about wins and loses, but improving in terms of game-planning, adjustments on the fly, doing more to help the offense, putting players in a situation to succeed. He failed in all aspects of improvement. If Rex was a better coach, we would've been a better team last year, and prob in 2011 especially. I don't give a crap about Rex, I am just telling YOU - why your argument is a bunch of BS. You ask yourself, what has Rex done for the Jets from 2011 to last season? Ask yourself that very question.
Rex isnt the coach of the jets. so he really cant do anything for us "lately". the most recent thing Rex has been involved with as far as the jets was handing us a loss a few weeks ago. Nonsense... as it is, we massively overachieved going 8-8... and last year was just a throw away season with a gutted roster prepping for a rebuild. no team with Geno smith starting is going to be a good team, no team with walls and allen starting is going to be a good team. no team with Hill starting at WR is going to be a good team. Lombardi wouldnt have coached that team to 6 wins so other then all the good stuff rex has done for the jets, he has done nothing well. thats like me saying, other then the 7 wins this year, what has bowles done? that isnt the way it works, you cant just throw away 2 of the most successful seasons in jets history, and then say "well what about the other years". especially when the most relevant and apples to apples comparison between Rex and Bowles would be Rex's first season vs. bowles in his first season. actions speak louder then words. Rex clearly occupies quite a bit of real estate in your mind
What has he done from 2011 until the time he was fired? What positives? It was the luckiest 8-8 of all time. Go through the games we won and observe how we won them. You can't depend on luck to win you each and every game. /thread thank you for finally agreeing. Todd Bowles is a guy, I always wanted at HC for the Jets. Humble, able to make adjustments, not stubborn. Yeah, I am glad Rex is gone.
Who gives a shit about Rex,None of you would be bumping this thread if Couglin went for a field goal .....so save it for another day maybe the playoffs
Giants got too cocky and they got fucked because of it. NFL is all about taking advantages of opportunities, and we took full advantage. I'm just glad we got the W. We got a resilient team, hopefully we carry this momentum over for the rest of the season.
this is spot on... all the headlines are about coughlins horrible decision not to kick the FG... which is a shame because the jets went 70+ yards on consecutive drives to tie that game, then again went 60+ to score in OT and stopped the giants from scoring after a long kick return jets earned every bit of that win... and to be honest, probably win it handily if not for 2 long plays for NY
so when it's Rex, it's all luck. but when it's Bowles, it's about taking advantages of opportunities. got it..
One coach has 6 years of experience and has taken a 9-7 team to a 6-6 record so far. The other coach is in his rookie season and has taken a 4-12 team to 7-5 so far. One team improved, the other one didn't.
