He had 3 tackles, one was a nice hit in coverage. Was kinda funny to see. Nice to see Catapano get a sack today. Wilk and Williams with sacks also. Giants 24 rushes for 74 yards. Rontez with the big redzone int. of course. D played well. That third quarter was just brutal though.
Noticed that too I can't really say how he did but thank you guys for sharing He did seem to have no problem setting the edge on 1 play but honestly was hectic room so I could not focus
thanks for the great post hawk. Do you know what percentage of plays the lb's are playing? That or where I could find the info. It seems like Henderson is seeing more time on the field these days.
Nice call! He got that key pick to shut down that long drive in the 4th. I like Miles, he can mix it up down in the box and is a solid cover guy, a good 3rd safety
That was my thinking as well going forward. Prior to Bowels behind hired there was a lot of discussion about how he used Matthieu in a hybrid Safety/LB role. It was also noted that he liked nickel and dime packages in addition to blitzing. With all of the in the box safeties, and lack of OLB that can cover, we had at the start of the pre season. I was sure we'd probably go that route as well. Injuries to AA and JJ early on probably derailed any chance of that happening. Now that Miles has stepped up and looks like he has some game and Bowels has made it perfectly clear that he knows our OLB's suck. There is nothing stopping him from running those packages other than there is zero depth at safety. Maybe once Bailey comes back and Revis is healthy we could see something like that.
As funny as that is I wish we could see less of the whole D line dropping into coverage stuff. I'd love to see them keep hte line together for just one more year and just run a 4 man front with some blitzing from Maudlin/Miles/whoever.
Thanks, I was so happy for Miles. I like the great suggestion you and hastygreen provided on the subject of using more of Miles as a Hybrid LB, particularly when our secondary gets a little healthier. My whole premise is to add speed and quickness to the middle of our line with more safety help and less slow linebacker help particularly in the red zone for passing situations. Lord knows we need help particularly on third down to get the opposition off the field.
Quick update, looks like I'll be able to add videos/gifs now. Switched the software and the one I have now is way easier on my PC. Gave it a shot and it works perfectly fine/fluid. But until I get the hang of it I'm probably just going to post raw gif files (no animations or anything like that), but that should be good enough. Depending on when they have the coaches film up (usually 1-2 days later) I might have something up tonight or tomorrow hopefully.
Do you mean snap numbers for every player? There are a few sources/sites that track these. If so let me know I think I have one of those bookmarked somewhere. But I'm not sure that's what you were asking.
I'll definitely have that one up soon. Sheldon was asked after the game if the hit affected OBJ and Sheldon was like "well he didn't celebrate the 1st down did he?".
There it is, my very first GIF. I think quality/size wise it looks good enough? Catapano (FA pickup) whips the Giants 1st round pick (Flowers) with his "trademark" bullrush move.
Your post game threads are outstanding. Can we get a breakdown of yesterdays game as well. If it isnt too much trouble, of course.
Man I can't wait for Antonio Allen to come back next year! He'd probably be the best guy to fill that hybrid role, considering his background! I'm glad that this D has so many cheap young pieces to work with as the veterans become too expensive to keep.
Much appreciated. And yes I'll definitely have one up by tomorrow or Wednesday. If there's anything you're (or anyone else) looking for specifically let me know.
Yup that's it, the snap counts, thanks. EDIT: oddly enough NJ.com had a story with the snap counts right in the sidebar today. The counts were done by total percentage of the plays. Some interesting things there Kerley and Cumberland with (2) each compared to Kellen Davis (35) and Kenbrell Tompkins with (12). I'm guessing Cumberland has joined Kerley in the absolute doghouse. Having guys like them taking almost zero snaps and unable to play specials is why our specials stink and roster depth is screwy.Another interesting thing with the offense is that Enunwa was 3rd for WR with (53) snaps. I'm guessing he's our slot receiver now? Over on the defense it turns out Henderson did did more time on the field with as many snaps as Calvin Pace with (24). Demario played in (23) snaps and Lattimore played in (19). I'm hoping with those numbers we are trending towards Demario not seeing much more time on the field. I really wanted the guy to work out for us but we are 4 years in and with all his speed he can't cover properly, tackle effectively, or help generate a pass rush.
Here you go: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/snapcounts Takes them a few days to update the numbers. Our beat writers usually have them right after the game. Here's week 13: Offense LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson 78 (100 percent) RT Breno Giacomini 78 (100) LG James Carpenter 78 (100) RG Brian Winters 78 (100) WR Eric Decker 78 (100) C Nick Mangold 78 (100) QB Ryan Fitzpatrick 78 (100) WR Brandon Marshall 76 (97) WR Quincy Enunwa 53 (68) WR Devin Smith 46 (59) RB Bilal Powell 43 (55) TE Kellen Davis 35 (45) RB Chris Ivory 30 (38) WR Kenbrell Thompkins 12 (15) FB Tommy Bohanon 8 (10) RB Stevan Ridley 5 (6) TE Jeff Cumberland 2 (3) WR Jeremy Kerley 2 (3) Defense ILB David Harris 65 (100) CB Buster Skrine 64 (98) CB Antonio Cromartie 64 (98) FS Marcus Gilchrist 64 (98) CB Darrin Walls 55 (85) DE Marcus Wilkerson 53 (82) DE Sheldon Richardson 51 (78) DE Leonard Williams 44 (68) NT Damon Harrison 37 (57) DB Rontez Miles 33 (51) SS Calvin Pryor 32 (49) LB Lorenzo Mauldin 25 (38) ILB Erin Henderson 24 (37) OLB Calvin Pace 24 (37) ILB Demario Davis 23 (35) ILB Jamari Lattimore 19 (29) DE Leger Douzable 18 (28) DE Mike Catapano 9 (14) DE Stephen Bowen 9 (14) OLB Trevor Reilly 2 (3) Henderson actually got more snaps than Davis. Love the way Bowles is rotating these guys and finally giving the younger players more playing time. I'm surprised to see Dex or even Dee not get a single snap.
This is one thing that I love about Bowles maturation as a coach. He is recognizing who isnt a starting quality player, and he is cutting their snaps. I know it sounds like a super simple concept, but a lot of coaches prefer to play their guys, even when not getting the job done. I actually thought that was a problem with Todd early on in the year. Not playing the young guys in favor of the vets. Its like night and day seeing young guys like Mauldin and Catapano out there instead of Pace. He seems to be growing as a coach each week.
