This reminds me of the Chargers ST unit of 2010. That ST unit single-handedly drove that year's Chargers team into the ground.

I remember that. The Chargers were #1 on offense and defense that year, but were dead last in ST. They finished 9-7 and missed the playoffs.

Just looked it up, #1 on offense and defense according to wiki! They still went 9-7, but their ST unit kept them from the playoffs. I'm praying ours don't do the same. That same year I recall the Raiders winning all of their division games and going 8-8 lol.

So Cumberland can't catch a break just like he can't catch anything else.

I'll say this about him - he has an idiot at RG, an idiot at RT, a backup C half the year, and hasn't had a TE....despite that the Jets D is:
    14th in yards/game
    7th in points/game
    14th in TOP/game
    8th in turnover differential

We all have gripes with him...but he's far exceeded any expectations we had coming in.

Who are they going to hire in the middle of the season? Coaches rarely get fired in the middle of the season, nor should they.

I'm not sure I agreed with the penalty, the replay made it look worse than it was but that punter sold the shit out of it. At first I thought Cumberland was blocked into him.

To be fair to Cumberland who gets shit on a lot he made a great play in OT on that return, he wasn't in position to make the tackle but he got his hands on the ball enough to slow the returner down to allow Miles to make the tackle.

I don't know, an assistant coach of some kind? At they very least they should let the guy go as soon as the seasons over.

It's not the worst special teams coverage, but we have to have the worst punt coverage team in NFL history. A punter with a shitty hang time doesn't help but we seriously might have to consider using more linebackers on this team. Powell misses a tackle every punt. Cumberland isn't much better. I'm not sure what the coverage unit consists of, but I wouldn't mind seeing Lattimore, Demario Davis, Lorenzo Mauldin, Trevor Reilly, Catapano, Josh Martin, etc. Every single backup linebacker we have on the coverage unit.

It seems we are trying so hard to keep guys fresh to rotate in on defense that we won't use them on this special teams unit.

Might have to start playing starters on specials if we aren't firing Bob April and he's going to coordinate the same shitty units

The punt coverage is unbelievably bad....a few have already gone for TDs and many others have come really close to popping....All off of basic punts

Can't remember the last time we had a big time punter, it's really crazy how a defensive team like the Jets hasn't made it a priority to find a boomer back there.....coach after coach and complete garbage punters

We come into every game already behind the 8 Ball as our special teams never make any big plays and the other team usually does atleast once

Bowles needs to take charge here

I'm ready to throw crazy $ at Westhoff to come back in season and take over for April. Bobby April is a joke.

Did you hear Westhoff on the post game? He said you kick it towards the sideline if there are two returners back there. Makes you wonder if Quigly missed it.

Also he said having someone like Cumberland on special teams is a bad call by the coach.

I think Westhoff could turn it around immediately. They won't do it, but I would love to see April get fired and Mike Westhoff come back.

We're so bad that I don't understand why we haven't just gone back to standard percentage plays.

If you can't trust the punter's hang time or the tackling of the coverage unit - boot it out the back of the end zone or out-of-bounds. The same thing is true of punt blocking - I'd rather not risk the loss of yardage/new set of downs for running into/roughing vs the 1% chance of blocking the kick

i think i remember westhoff saying that they did not have players on sts and that they needed better players on those teams.

the punter is fucking terrible, the coverage team is terrible. i said it a few weeks ago, can we get somebody who is willing to actually run with the ball back there on kick returns? i cant watch cromatie jog up the field anymore. can we get someone out there in place of kerley, i get it you are punishing him for whatever reason and showing him that your the boss and trying to make him say i give. but it isnt helping the team in any way shape or form to have him back there.

EASILY the worst Special Teams of all time!

They were top 5 in offense and I think top 5 in defense as well.
