Everybody checks themselves in treatment sessions unless it court order. This day in age society thinks everybody a alcoholic that gets drunk once in a while. I'll bet him checking in for treatments was nothing but a PR move. What the hell would people think this day in age about Joe Namath with the way he was.

The drinking was affecting his job performance so yes, that does make him an alcoholic, if he keeps doing it after it starts affecting his job performance. Many people are in denial about being an alcoholic, some alcoholics are not Bowery bums rolling around in their own puke, they may seem normal to the most cursory glance but when it comes down to the alcohol determining major facets of their life, then you know they may be an alcoholic. You should realize that using Namath as your example is pretty foolish being he is an admitted alcoholic but once again, right over your head.
