You have the balls to call people stupid or a dope but you still haven't answered any of the tough questions. Who is it that sits on the top of the mountain and calls the shots? You don't even have to name names, just describe how this individual got to such a position of power. Then tell us how long this has been going on and how many people have been involved. When you have that all figured out tell us where all the bodies are buried of the people on the periphery who knew too much and had to be silenced. You don't really expect all this to go off without a snag or a few dozen pair of loose lips, do you? After all, if all this money is getting divvied up somebody is going to get think they've been shortchanged, pissed off and threaten to spill the beans, right? I'll bet you really think the WTC was brought down by the government and the Navy shot down TWA 800 but when you get called out for details of how your little scenario operates, you just call people who actually have a thought process childish names and repeat your ridiculous empty charges. Have a great life, sonny but be careful - they're all out to get you.
I think Byz was on some kind of angry drunken bender last night--was trying to pick fights with a bunch of posters trolling them with witless insults. I'm guessing he's thinking it's time for one of his sabbaticals and about bringing Charlie back. _
Exactly ...something tells me if its NE vs KC in the AFC championship ... you bet NE will get more favorable calls Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
another thing I'll throw in the discussion ring- - the NFL and their media partners love to play up the parity aspect of the game. "anyone can beat anyone on a given sunday"... all that BS. I would not be surprised at all if they embellish that. consider last year's 1-8 Jets win over the 6-3 Steelers 20-13. A Jets team that had just lost 8 freakin games in a row and blown leads earlier in the season (including a 17pt lead in GB) is up 17-0 at home to one of the best teams in the NFL in Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger leads Pittsburgh down into the Jets redzone only to be intercepted at the 2 yard line on a play after a deflection from Marcus Williams that any other time could and IS called pass interference and 1st and goal for Pittsburgh...... hmmmm.. a little later the Jets have the ball in their own end, 20/30 yard line ish... Michael Vick very clearly fumbles the ball resulting in a Pittsburgh recovery. Yet somehow the referees called him down by contact on the field. Tomlin throws the red flag and the "play stands as called" after the referees converse with the league office... hmmmm... in a game that ended 20-13 just one of those calls going the other way, honestly like they should've, results in a probable Jets loss against the better football team. In a venture that makes money off of consumers loyalty to their individual brands (teams) it would make sense that the organization running things would want to appear like any individual brand can be successful on any given day. Its the concept that built the NFL empire and what brings legions of fans every year. Its why we all stick around when the team is 1-8 in november..so yeah, I do think about things like this a lot when a "surprising" upset occurs.
I think the league is already designed to bring parity to the product. Best team gets the worst pick, worst teams get the best. Waiver claims go to the worst team. Schedules are staggered so the worst play the worst. Salary cap makes it a level playing filed. If there is even the slightest plan to make the actual play on the field slanted by refs--it's a massive scheme. It can't be done by a rogue ref or Goodell by himself. Again--a rogue ref or player could effect an individual game--but what you and byz are positing is that the LEAGUE itself is orchestrating actual games to play by a script. It's impossible. As witless as a comment is that billionaires don't mind playing golf for 3 to 6 years--not one of those billionaires wants to be imprisoned for a nanosceond. With the billions being shuffled around--to what end would they risk going to prison? Why would Jerry Jones--as big of a scumbag as he is--want to risk losing his crown jewel and spend the rest of his life in prison? When he already has billions? Why would the Maras do that? Unless you think Goodell is doing it on his own? Preposterous. He makes $44 million a year. _
I think the NFL is more concerned with a loan wolf. A ref who's been leaned on by the mob to throw one or two extra flags to help against the spread. Hasn't that already happened just a few years ago?
And I won't deny that that's an issue. What's been posited here is that the refs AS A WHOLE are being directed to call games one way or another--to favor teams on a week to week basis. That's not the action of one man--that's a massive scheme that needs to be planned and orchestrated. And has been kept silent all these years. _
I wish you would stop making the claim that its impossible because its not. When you say its impossible I can't even read the rest of what you have to say because thats blatantly wrong. improbable? okay, possibly... I'll listen you strongly believe its not happening? okay, I understand and I'll listen.... but definitely NOT impossible - would be quite possible with a small group of influencers and a lot of ambiguity in terms of rules and operational norms
Sorry, that's my opinion. It's impossible. For that exact reason. Unless you can explain somehow what small group of influences you are talking about, it makes no sense. _
Here's my issue with conspiracy theorists. They can throw out a bunch of grand hypos but when it comes down to the nitty gritty--it's gets murky. I KNOW how the Pats deflated balls. I KNOW how they filmed sidelines. How were 6 Moon Landings faked? Thousands of movie production people? Not a peep? Ever? How did the government blow up the Twin Towers? The CIA? Delta Team? Never a peep? Ever? _
dude. this isn't moon landings or the federal government. none of that nonsense applies and I'm not even sure why you are bringing in those red herrings. You are all over the place. I am not even completely making the argument that the game is rigged! I don't know. I am just saying its possible and sometimes I question it. Somedays more than others like that Jets/Steelers win. Of course I'm murky with the nitty gritty. If I knew I wouldn't be here talking about it I'd be in the NFL's small circle benefiting from it and keeping my mouth shut
end of thread. 100% with Stokes. I've hesitated to read this thread because I knew it would get me incensed. There is WAY WAY too much money being made just by playing it straight and NOT doing something colossally stupid like coaxing small-time people (like NFL refs) with influencing the outcomes of games. The risk/reward is like betting your life savings (and your reputation) in order to pocket an extra $20. Think about it. You're the most powerful person in the NFL (whoever the hell that is.) You can make 10 zillion dollars simply by playing it straight, or you can make 11 zillion dollars by cheating and getting away with it, and never being outed. And all you have to do is organize a conspiracy that MUST include vulnerable, low-level people who are human being with consciences, and who may one day decide to tell all. Why on earth would you ever risk that with the National Fucking Football League??? What powerful person -- who by definition has tons of bank and influence -- would risk their name and fortune for a few extra dollars?
My point is for years I've been hearing about how the league is out to get us. Or another team. Or another. Every fan base feels that way. I'm just astonished that fandom can cloud people's logic when it comes to fixing games. Like it's one big conspiracy except the conspiracy is against everyone. And its being perpetrated by a small cabal on the NFL's Anti-Competition Committee. _
How much money changes hands in Vegas every weekend on these games? I don't know the answer actually, but I've always assumed its a lot. Its possible, but entirely improbable that there is a massive conspiracy afoot that would jeopardize all that loot that people lose every weekend. Just my take on it.
