So I get called racial slurs, which dont bother me btw, but its the concept of this guy using them , when he wouldnt dare use other ones to describe other groups of people. And Im getting threatened with a ban as well? Care to enlighten me on what rules I've broken to deserve even the threat of one? I really despise organized religion, but I understand its existence. It started out as a method of calming the human soul, and though it became a vast and effective method of population control, it continues to be a very effective way of calming the soul, in pretty much every practice. The problem is the population control, not the base existence. And human nature has twisted it so much that it's either used to kill or suppress. And as an after effect, also used as something that soothes. I'd liken it to weed, actually. It's something that in essence does mainly beneficial this, but it's demonized and its existence is used to control people and make money and suppress, in a way. And no, I'm not calling religion weed. But it's close!
I consider myself a fairly religious person, but I actually dislike people who make a big show of praying. It isn't necessary and is more about showboating faith that doing good. As for what G-d wants, I've always loved this joke as it is strongly linked to my beliefs. I'll try to tell it to the best of my memory: A huge flood hits an area so this guy's neighborhood (we'll call him Sam). Sam is a G-d fearing man and believes that the Lord will save him, so he gives the canoe he won in his church raffle to his neighbor and climbs to the top of his roof to wait out the flood. Soon another boat comes by to rescue people but Sam tells them to save someone else because G-d will provide. As the flood waters rise a helicopter comes by but Sam waives them off as well and says G-d will provide. Finally, even on top of his roof Sam is no longer above the flood waters. A man clinging desperately to a large branch floats nearby and offers to let Sam join him and try to drift to safety, but again Sam defers and says G-d will provide. Finally the flood waters rise and Sam drowns. In heaven Sam meets G-d and he is devastated. "G-d, why didn't you save me? I thought you would surely provide help " said Sam. To this G-d replied, "I gave you all the help you needed and more. I gave you your own canoe in the raffle last week. I sent a boat to save you, and then a helicopter, and finally I offered you a branch."
