I heard that same segment. I think he's critical of both the giants and jets. It just seems like he's been harder on us because we've pretty much been the lesser team since 2011. My big problem with him is if he doesn't agree right off the bat with what a caller is saying they have no chance to give their take on something.
mike is a complete asshole, however most of the callers are complete idiots too. that said the best work mike does is when people purposely troll him. he doesnt even mean to do good work it just happens and its hilarious. fucking blowhard asshole.
I think you misunderstand his use of the term "fraud" as a fan and as a paid professional. He calls fans frauds that root for their hometown favorite team growing up but then say they also root for the other team--like hey, we're all NY, gotta root for a NY team. He, like me, grew up in an era when you rooted for one team, the Mets for example, and HATED the Yankees. I still hate them today and would never root for them if they got into the playoffs or WS because "they are a NY team". Same with the Jets over the Giants. You can't root for both. That's being a fraudulent fan. But Don isn't "rooting" for his rival teams. Don has jobs where he has to be professionally objective. He doesn't hide the fact that he's a fan of his teams but his JOB is to cover rival teams--all in the NY Metro area. And he doesn't have the option to cover his favorite teams. But he's getting PAID to cover those other teams and he does a great job at it. I'm sure if he got the chance to cover his teams he'd do it in a second. And he was on ESPN way before they were simulcast on YES, was he supposed to quit his high paying job because his rival team owns it? Don's the best and he calls it straight. You're a fraud if you root for both teams. But working for a rival, with the money involved is not fraudulent or hypocritical--it's good business. _
He's not a fraud and he's not hypocritical. It's his JOB. Does everyone love THEIR job--is the Company you work for the one they rooted for as a kid? You have to separate how you root as a fan and who pays you lots of money. _
Stokes. I like Jets and Jets only. And I don't like Giants for obvious reasons. But I don't care about other sports. So I am rooting for all New York teams when they are in the playoffs. Why am I fraud? Who am I cheating? Fraud means you are deliberately cheating. How am I cheating?
Fraud as in fake. Not cheating. I'm our language, oftentimes words have many different and varied meanings. Not fraudulent in the literal sense of commiting a fraud. Fraudulent as in being fake. _
Yeah I guess you can call me a fake Yankee fan or Met fan. I like both teams equally and no difference for me whatsoever.
See, that's my point. Fraud is an ugly word. Call me bandwagon Yankee or Met fan and I will take it. Fraud is ugly like Don's ugly goatee. By the way Don is the man. Best radio guy hands down. Don't know why they call it Michael Kay show. Kay can only be Lagreca's sidekick. Don't like Kay at all. He is the real fraud if you ask me.
If you are hurt my friend, listen to Muzeyyen Senar. The greatest woman singer in Turkish history. She is an old fart and young blood don't listen to her anymore but for people over 35, she is a God. And fuck Francesca.
It comes from a by gone era when we were kids. And has nothing to do with ACTUAL rivalries between ACTUAL teams. In my area growing up you either rooted for the Mets and hated the Yankees or vice versa. Same with the Jets and the Giants. To root for your hated rival (not the team's rival--but the rival fan's team) would be fraudulent. Those are the rules I live by. Having said that--those Giant-Pats SBs were two of the most schizophrenic games for me because I'd root for the Iraqi Republican Guard over the Pats. Had a really tough time even thinking about pulling for the Giants--like kissing your sister if your sister was a really obese pig. _
