Eric Decker has 51 receptions for 8 td's; 40% of Fitz' passing td production.

He is having a damn good season and may finish with as many TD's as Marshall.

I know he benefits from Marshall being doubled a lot, but he has been just as much a key to our success.

On paper he's probably going to have the best season for a Jets WR of all time, but with some of his drops and mental mistakes it becomes a little more questionable. However, he undoubtedly has been huge for this team and was a great pickup. He and Decker form a very legitimate tandem and probably one of the top several in the league. We've been waiting for this kind of WR play for a long time

How can this happen with a washed up noodle arm at QB?

Not only that, but the rules are set for offensive players to set all new records now. I'm 27, but I understand that.

Shouldn't disrespect legends because the STATS aren't quite what you expect.

Marshall is a beast who makes everyone of the skill position players around him better including the QB. To think we would be as good without him is insane.

looks like were finally going to get our first 1,000 yard receiver since Cotchery in '07.
Can we get 2 receivers with 1,000 yards for the first time since '98 with Keyshawn & Chrebet? Decker's got 700 with 5 games to go. 60 yards per game and he's got it. I like our chances.

Marshall's drops aren't just regular drops though.. they are always drops that could have changed the game drastically or a TD drop.. He should probably have about 12 TD's TBH... but what he has done for this team man...i'll forever respect him for it. I in my 16 years of being a jets fan never seen a WR like him.. a real #1 WR... watching him treat grimes like a little fly again with EASE... i love it. I even ordered his color rush jersey over wilkerson because he's just that dude! salute Machine Marsh!!

    Nope,
Maynard had 3 seasons with the Jets of more than 1,250 yards receiving (and one of those was before Namath was drafted).
Maynard had 9 100 yard games in 67, and 7 100 yard games in 68.
Maynard had 2 seasons 67, 68 where he averaged more than 20 yards per catch.
And Maynard owns the single season TD record of 14.

Oh, and he did it in 14 game seasons and did it all before the game became pass friendly.

What ARE you smokin' ? Marshall = Best Jet WR since Keyshawn Johnson = First Legit #1 WR since KJ = 40% of our TD receptions = just by being on the field makes Decker and Smith serious threats = locker room leader.

His good F-A-R outweighs his bad. Offense is completely different without him. (See 2014 season)

It's definitely one of the best seasons ever by a Jets receiver (assuming he stays healthy). But this shouldn't come as much of a surprise. This is what Marhsall does, he's a great player even with the drops. And he's done it in the past with subpar/average QB play. He's a legitimate top tier receiver in this league and has been for a long time.

If he has a couple more big seasons as a wideout he's probably on his way to the Hall of Fame.

also look at the rules they were playing under in the 60's.

Namath's 4K yards in a 14 games season is incredible.

Can you image if he and Maynard and Sauer were playing in 2015.

shit there's not enough room in the record book for the numbers they would put up.

TD numbers would be a lot different that's for certain. One big reason is where the goal posts are set and the type of goal posts used. Up until 1974 goal posts were on the front goal line and up until the early 70's most goal posts were of the double post variety and not the single post. What this equated to was a much more difficult passing TD situation as the goal posts acted as additional defenders which blocked off pretty much any endzone crossing route which is so popular in today's redzone passing game. 'Dragging across the goal line on a route would have a receiver running in to one of the two goal posts, not to mention the big obstacle's the posts themselves represented.

Not to mention every pass play back in those days would have modern fans screaming 'Pass interference', 'Defensive Holding', or 'illegal contact'.
Not to mention that until 1972 (73?) offensive linemen were prohibited from using their hands in blocking.

I'll almost be impressed if they do it in 14 games.

to put that in perspective, just to catch Maynards 1,434 yard season Marshall will have to average 100 yards per game roughly over the last 5 games of a 16 game season to catch how good Maynard was that year in 14 games

Very possible considering remaining schedule.. And bowles said we're going back to the basics which was throwing the damn ball to marshall when he had one on one coverage and just simplifying the offense as a whole in general... We stopped doing that after the first month and marshall's numbers dropped real quick

it's weird watching this and seeing how the games changed in terms of rules and conditions.
Those goal post images are just wow. I remember watching receivers running in to those and one or two getting knocked out by them lol, I had forgotten how little padding was on them.

Possible? yes, but again to put it in to perspective he'd need 2 additional games, each of 100 yards, to achieve what Maynard did without those two additional games.

Don't get me wrong, Marshalls have a fabulous season, but it doesn't come close to being what Maynard did.
