I'm just looking for a strong promising finish, regardless of play-offs

Last three coaches we had made the play-offs in their first season and where did it get us?

I'm sorry but playoffs is the only goal any team should have. Giants won a SB with an 8-8 record because they went on a ridiculous run.

Playoffs every year sets you up for a SB appearance.

Listen, your right, but I'm not coaching the team, so I have a different perspective. If we win out, go 11-5 and steam roll into the play-offs that's one thing. If we finish 8-8 and back into the play-offs, then all we get is a false sense of security, which, let's face it has happened many times before to the Jets. ('91, 01, 02, 06 to cite 4) Even '09 was a great run, but in the long run, it lead to 4 unproductive season 11-14. So I'm rooting hard for them to win every game, but I think a strong promising finish is more important, regardless of whether we make the play-offs or not. But to your point and mine, if we win 3 of the next five, it will have to include a victory against at least one of the following teams...the Giants, Pats or Bills... and we will probably make the play-offs. So, if we win three of the next five, both our points will be satisfied.

And for the record, the Giants never won a SB with an 8-8 record. In 2007 they finished 10-6, and in 2011 the won the NFC East with a 9-7 record. And we don't have a QB as good as Eli Manning to lead them.

I just can't see the Jets getting in, but at least we are still in contention.

You're right, Fitz would never be able to throw 3 picks and lose a division lead in the crappiest division in the NFL like Eli Manning did today.

Ok, my bad on thinking they were 8-8, I remember the run they went on, but I forgot they were 9-7.

In regards to the jets steamrolling or backing into the playoffs, personally I'm not of the opinion that making the playoffs in a dominant fashion or squeezing into them affects the following year or the year after that and so on.

There are 2 different dynamics in play, the ability of the GM to keep infusing younger players into roles that are vacated by veteran players who leave for more money or retire.

And secondly the ability of the HC to maintain a level of hunger with the players he is given.

The jets fell off because the players they brought in, were just bad. Wayne turner, Stephen hill, Kyle Wilson, Quinton Coples, Brian the cat Winters.

if you look at the consistent winners in the NFL, they have good FO, Good coaching and a good QB.

This is just my opinion, but I think you and I agree that we hope the jets find a way to become that type of franchise.

    Raiders, Texans, and Steelers.

Only one of those teams we have the tiebreaker over is the Colts. We need Houston to get the AFC South spot so they're not a WC contender.

Have to say 5-6 Bills over 6-5 Texans because we're tied with HOU and they have tiebreaker, BUF also does but we get to play them again.

6-5 colts because we have tie breaker and they can still win division unlike Pitt.

Chiefs/Raiders is a toss up. Raiders have tie breaker but Chiefs are on fire.

It's not like the Jets have a lot of young players where development will be beneficial to the future though. They're a vet-laden defense (Pryor and the d-line aside) and really a vet-laden offense. They're kind of built to win now.

9-7 but close enough...this year they might win one with a 7-9 or 8-8 record :p

I really like how all of our competition plays each other down the stretch. Promotes mediocrity, which helps us.

The Steelers have lost to the Seahawks. So how does that shake up the playoffs with all the (6-5) teams now?
