New heavyweight champion, takes 4 titles from Klitschko. IMO the heavyweight division has become the most boring in all boxing, but maybe this will be the start of some change. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/blogs/...es-by-singing-aerosmith-010409448-boxing.html
Boxing is so last millennium. The sport has been ruined, no/few big fights, no/few big names. Maybe I was spoiled by the fights in the 70's, 80's and 90's... or maybe people smartened up and play chess now.
I never thought I'd see the day when a heavyweight championship fight was on HBO, in the middle of the afternoon.
It's because American ego and pride got in the way and we don't truly care about others...If Klitschko brothers were American I bet it would be ppv and we would be comparing them to greats
That's the fundamental problem with the sport. They allowed a boring defensive fighter like Mayweather rise to the top via self promotion. He wins on points and connects but rarely takes chances on trying to knock anyone out. Boxers are smart enough to realize they can win fights based on connecting on their jab all fight long rather than stepping into their punches and potentially getting caught with a big counter.
Pac Man beat Mayweather's ass. Mayweather is smart and has learned to win based on the rules. But if it came down to actually knocking someone out, things would be drastically different.
yep. But those rules changed drastically when Leonard made his move to fight Hagler. Hold,Hold, then Hold some more....throw meaningless flurry in the last ten seconds.
I have yet to see it, missed it when it aired...waiting for HBO on demand for replay. The heavyweights are so slow moving compared to the lighter weights. I saw an article today that Klitschko will, "exercise his contractual right to face Tyson Fury in a rematch". Might actually be worth watching. Also, saw Fury call out Klitschko camp for offering the champ tainted water after the fight.
