Yeah this is what I don't get.. Many are reacting like Coples was great under Rex or something... I bet they will claim him and I bet Coples won't do anything there
I'm sure Coples is thrilled to go to a team coached by a guy who did everything he could to make sure Coples talents were not maximized. At least he'll run through a brick wall for Rex while trying to cover a runningback on a wheel route...
His real position is a weakside 3-4 end in a blitzing defense like what Arizona, Pittsburgh or Baltimore. He'd be a solid run stopper in that spot.

so what was his excuse under Bowles? are you suggesting both coaches failed to find a way to make Coples look good?......or maybe....just maybe.......he isn't good? he'd have to bulk back up, but maybe that would be possible. but he's definitely not a two gapper, and he wasn't very impressive at stuffing the run at the 5tech his rookie season. so it would take a very specific system, as no one is changing their system for Coples. i haven't seen anything to make me optimistic that would work for him. i think his best bet is finding a niche as a subpackage specialist. ie 3rd and longs...
I think we'll agree to disagree. I'm suggesting Coples has never truly played where he'd be ideal to play. He's never played the 5technique. His rookie year we had Devito and Wilk. Bowles never tried him in that role because there's no room on the field for him. He's always been wasted as a 3-4 outside linebacker, and covering the flats, and jamming flankers. He's good enough at using his hands and disengaging to play inside in the 3-4 moreso away from the tightend. He'll find a home in that role in this league if given the chance.
