No, he's not not talking dead money. He's talking guaranteed money. Revis has $8 mil in guaranteed money in 2017 no matter what. That's not breaking even. It's just spending less than you originally planned. If you were planning on giving me $20, but then only ended up giving me $10, then yeah you saved $10. But you didn't break even. You still spent $10. That's not breaking even lol. Go look at his contract on Spotrac. They're into Revis for 2015, 2016, and 2017. By 2017, he'll be barely a shell of his former self.
Also. That's $8 mil in dead money for ONE PLAYER. That's more than most teams have COMBINED for all of their cuts put together. You misunderstood what I was saying. And apparently continue to regurgitate what you thought I meant, rather than what I corrected you on. So, for a third time, I was saying that given his production, they're in cap hell with HIM. NO other team would give him the contract the Jets did.
If you guys had the cap room Rex would've loaded up the Brinks truck himself to have him again. The contract sure isn't pretty but it costs to get a player Revis' caliber. He's still going to be the best CB on either Jets or Bills this and next season. We'll see about 2017 but I do think he'll still be a serviceable starter.
I think at this stage in their careers I'd take Gilmore over Revis. Gilmore is hitting his prime while Revis is starting to fade.
He had a bad game for sure, but this is Bowles fault for not putting a safety over the top. Revis is 30 years old, he can't cover these young freakish lions anymore like he did in 2009-2010. Hopkins is one of the best in the league.
I'm not trying to be a jerk; Just honest. I would NOT want Revis for the amount of money you are paying him. As far as best CB on both rosters - Ronald Darby is currently rated #2 in the entire NFL, and is being paid 1/10th of Revis. Gilmore is rated #4 in the entire NFL and is being paid 1/5th of Revis. Darby has allowed less completions, less touchdowns and has batted down more balls than Revis, while playing a nearly identical amount of plays. Revis is still good. Don't get me wrong. But he is not worth that monster contract.
Of course Revis isn't worth that amount of money. Everybody here knows that. Time moves on and turns all of our heroes into old men a step too slow. The Jets are a bad team and have been a bad team for a long time. So sometimes you root for a guy as much as a team. "No my team isn't going to the Superbowl, but this guy, my guy, he is an island. He is the best there is." But then, one day, he isn't. And that happens faster with corners than it does with QBs so Revis' time on top of the heap was shorter than Brady's. But some day that day will come for Brady, just like it has for Revis. So yeah, Revis isn't what he once was, and clearly his contract is going to be a net negative for the team as his skills decline and they weigh the dead money hit necessary to extricate themselves.
Your comparing a rookie to someone who has been in the pro's since 2007, of course Darby is getting paid less.
Yes. Regis got burned because of the play design. He had no help, but they only rushed five, giving Yates way to much time. No-one can cover a great WR for that long. It's not possible. Remember Revis's year in Tampa? Yeah neither does anyone else. It's because the SCHEMES stunk. People were saying then that he will never be the same after the injury. Bowles concerns me because players are not in position to succeed. I was never a big fan of Rex. I think he is a bigmouth blowhard who ultimately will not be proven a winner, but his schemes are better. And Belichick's were better too. Coaching is key to players success.
3 drops in impressive? watkins had the worst day of any WR this year against revis. i dont see whats so impressive
Like I said, Revis is still a good player. But he's not worth the contract they gave him. Meanwhile you were praising him and saying that "you know your CB is good when people are whining" or something like that. Yes, we are all jealous for mentioning that your CB's best days are behind him, and you gave him way too much money. There is no "I told you so", but there's is a terrible, terrible contract that the Jets gave to an aging player.
Sa to say but the days of revis taking the best receiver out of the game are over. That being said he is still one of the best in the game right now. He is human and well just have to accept that he will need some help every once in a while, just like all but a few up and coming star dbs. Looking a few years down the road to 2017 and on, maybe we move him free safety . Seems to be working very well for Woodson .
well not exactly. Revis will have a whole lot more impact on game plans, as well as production, before that day comes.
