Take the name and number away. Would you still say those are top5 corner coverages?

I still think the 3rd down game on the line lack effort at Buf told you all you needed to know about revis. Great players make great pays with the game on the line. #24 did not

This post is getting funnier and funnier by the minute. When your superstar corner who makes a ton on money gets beaten by 5 yards week after week, is that still money well spent? Pats won the title last year and their D was improved, but Revis got way, way way too much credit for that. He was ok last year, not great. He's nowhere near the player that he used to be.

He got destroyed by the immortal Dwayne Bowe. Your absolutely right, he was good not great last year and is falling fast this year

After watching this today I'm taking my sentiments back of Revis being Revis just losing a step...he is clearly not the same player abit like Roy Jones Jr. when he got knocked out...he was never even close to being the same again...the invisibility is gone...

From the stiff arm by TY Hilton, to the TD by Garcon and the 1st down play by Watkins...and then today...Darren Woodson was right afterall...then he goes out with an Injury which tends to happen when he is beat bad...

Hope he regroups in the next few games....

Revis has spoiled us in the past with his all-world play these past few years.

Is he slower? yes. Is he 30? yes. Is he still one of the best corners in the league? yes.

When revis is getting beat for 100+ yds every game, then i'll start to worry. I'll take this revis over anything we had the past few seasons.

It's clear you have an axe to grind; as if it makes you happy that Revis is on the downhill side of an 'all world' career.
You need him to fail so you can have your insipid, "I told you so" moment, don't you?

fyi 2016 Jets @ $141M about $15m under the cap

    If they cut Cromartie ($9m) & Coples ($8m) that's another $17m
    If they get serious & cut B Marshall that's another $ 9M

They are nowhere near Cap hell.

That's easy when you're talking Kyle Wilson. Marcus Williams made a play late in the game that I think Revis may not have due to cushion he has to give now. Williams made that play because he could close faster than Revis can these days.

This is the beginning of the end of "Revis Island". Qb's and OC's are gonna watch tape and now that the aura of invincibility has been lifted from Revis, he will be targeted far more than ever before. Watkins blazed the path but the drops make the stats look better than they were. Today? The book has been opened for all to see. Revis is older and apparently, slower. He may be better than most, but he's no longer: "Revis Island". There's no longer any reason NOT to throw on that side of the field. With Cro on the other side, the Jet secondary isn't elite anymore.

    You didn't understand my point.

It's not that the entire team is in cap hell, but the Jets will have a ton of cap space tied into a good CB, paying him like an elite one.

If that's your point, it wasn't made very well, since there's no way to get that from your original post.

And it's not really much of a point,

Regardless of what they pay Revis, if they're $30-40 million under the cap, they aren't in cap hell.
Revis will most likely be on the team next year. In 2017, if they cut him, they have a net savings. Its not a negative to have Darrelle Revis on your team.
If he can't cover the way he used to, then its up to the CS to use his talents in a better way.

It's funny how rosy you paint it.

If it was that great for the team, NE, or 30 other teams, would have offered it to him as well.

No rosy. Just the fact Sorry if it doesn't fit your narrative.

Jets wanted Revis and they paid the most for him. They have to pay him through next year. After that, they can cut him with out net cap cost. That's rather well-known.
His deal was set up so that would not be in "cap hell" Your original point was that they are in cap hell because of Revis. What's funny is how you try to change your points every time you are proved wrong.

I dont really think you know what you are talking about if they cut him after next year he counts 8 mil dollars against the cap.. That is not nothing. He might be worth cutting in year three to save the 15 mil he will count if we keep him. But paying players 8 mil to not be on the team is not nothing man. You must have a very green tinted pair of glasses on to believe some of the shit you slinging.

I assume you are talking about dead money.

Bills fan said that Revis declining skills put the Jets in "cap hell". Not true. According to Over the Cap website http://overthecap.com/salary-cap/new-york-jets, if Revis is "so bad" that he needs to be cut after 2016, he would count $8m toward the 2017 cap, but they could save about $8m as well, because he would need to be paid about $15-16m for the season. Break even. His contract details are well known. $8m in dead money is a lot, but its not unusual to see that in the NFL. Jimmy Graham is costing the Saints $9m. The Bills, Giants and Eagles have between $11 -16m in dead money this year. Saints $33m. Pats $18m in dead money, including $5m that counts for Revis.

It does work out better for the Jets if they get three years out of Revis and cut him after 2017 season( $9m savings with $1m in dead money). But if they have to cut him after 2016, the Jets could also cut 11 year vets D'Brick & Mangold, saving $24m and it would cost them less than $2m in dead money. Then, if they also cut Revis, they would have a savings of $ 39m, with the $10m in dead money. (net $29m). And there are a lot of other options besides these three guys. The Bills fan was saying that the Revis contract puts them in cap hell, and that is just not true.
