Sun..N winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas around 4 ft. Mainly in E swell with a dominant period of 10 seconds. A chance of showers. 4 footers isn't too bad. It was way worse last time. It's a little windier than the last time I looked though haha. Either way, there'll be enough thc in my bloodstream to keep me from feeling anywhere near sick haha. New rod? What did ya get?
Got a Tsunami 7ft MH casting rod. I already have 3 Tsunami's and love them all. The casting rod I already have is a 7ft. Heavy. 50-100# line. Probably more suited for Tuna than Blackfish. Tsunami TSAWEBC-701MHJ Airwaves Elite Braid Casting Rod. It will be paired with a Daiwa LEXA400 HS-P. 50# PP and 30# Floro leader. Hopefully, I'll catch my share of Tog with it.
That's a nice set up, you should do well with it. I may be looking to replace my tog set up because, well, I dunno wtf it went. I ended up using my regular bottom gear. I only had 30lb mono on it, and when I get to the boat and go to leader up, what did I grab? The 20 lb floro. Oops. So, after that hiccup, and a little shower and slight chop on the way out, the day turned really nice. We had good action all day, except the hour during the tide change, but even during that we had a few fish come up. I ended up with a limit plus 1 I gave away since you can only keep 6. We had 10 guys aboard, and most limited out or hit a near limit except for one guy with 1 keeper he just gave away. I caught my biggest on a whole small greenie, but once we started dropping white leggers the whole damn wreck came to life, so definitely get them. They wanted small baits yesterday, no legs on a half crab or they wouldn't even touch them. The greenie I caught my big one one was about the size of a half dollar at most. I saw the OE's report, and they had guys who didn't catch any. I was a little surprised until I realized the boat is 100 foot. It's hard to get everyone over the good part all the time. We fished within site of them for most of the day I think, they didn't look railed or anything, but I don't know if everyone was on one side. So yay, good trip, here's pics.
Looks like a nice haul Kerley! Weather for this upcoming Sat looking shaky right now so I'm looking at either Sunday or the following weekend. The new rod came today and it pairs up nicely with the Daiwa so I'm anxious to get out there. This weekend is problematic as I leave for Silver Spring Md on business tomorrow and will be back on Friday. Then pulling out again on Sunday to come back on Wednesday. So, what is it they say about the best laid plans?
Silver Springs is only 3 hours from Ocean City. Maybe you can sneak a trip in while you're down there. Too early for tog, maybe seabass? I want to do a trip out of there in January if I can. Huge huge huge blackfish down there. http://www.onthewater.com/photos-story-28-pound-world-record-tautog/
so now I know what the hell a "TOG" is..... nice catch, they look like crustacean eaters. probably taste good. Got my new stradic, havent used it yet..still need to pick up a rod for it. Havent fished in general lately. Had intentions over the holiday weekend, but it blew NE 25+ kts, then the surf came up.
The traffic down here is just atrocious. I'll be happy just to pack up the company truck and GTFO of here ASAP. Nice people, just too damn many of them. Zillions of cars even though it appears they have a great mass transit set up. Saturday, I'm really gonna enjoy the nice quiet ride to Belmar and just enjoy some quality time with the wife on the water.
