When you draft a WR, you have go after the proven commodities. History has shown time and time again that the "projects" work out less than 1% of the time. When Amari Cooper came out, you just knew that he would instantly produce. He's already tearing it up, not even halfway through the rookie season. What has Smith done? he's done jack as a WR, and single handily cost us the game against Buffalo with one of the dumbest ST plays I've seen in my life. He literally has no value on this team right now. He can't hold onto the ball, can't create separation, doesn't make catches, nothing. For being a supposed "speedster"/deep threat, he's done nothing to indicate his speed. There's a reason this guy fell in the draft despite being a #1 WR for a National Champion college team.
He didn't fall anywhere, he went right where he was expected to go and probably where he should have gone. And he caught 30 balls his final year, how do you possibly call that being a "#1" type receiver. He was a pure deep threat, everybody knew it and that's what you were going to get with him, that's what he is. Just because the Dolphins were stupid enough to draft a similar guy in Ted Ginn in the top 10 doesn't mean Devin should have gone there or fell in the draft. He's a deep threat who needs a lot of work and time before he becomes a contributor. Fitz is missing guys left and right with his deep balls, that's where Devin excels. So you do the math. Of course right now he's not contributing or doing the one thing he can do well. To say that he can't separate, not make tough catches, whatever, after a few games is absurd. He made a great catch against Gilmore, he set him up perfectly, made a clean catch. You're talking out of your ass when you say he can't do this and that after a few games. The KR was still stupid, no doubt about it. But Stacy made an even worse decision later on, he didn't fumble but that dumb decision still ruined his year. Blame the coaching staff for putting these guys that clearly shouldn't handle KR duties out there, don't blame them. There's nothing that would suggest Stacy or even Devin are or could be good kick returners.
Bullshit. You come in and you dominate your first game or you don't belong. Look at the long list of superstars that shredded the NFL as soon as they entered the league. Antonio Brown. Boom! Tore defenses apart as a rookie, with 16 catches for 160 yards. That's not one game, that's his entire rookie year. A year later he went for 1100 yards. Demariyus Thomas. Another guy who was unstoppable as a rookie. 22 catches for 280 yards. He was irrelevant until his 3rd year. Marshall had 20 catches for 300 yards as a rookie. Jeffery had 24 catches for 360 yards. Cobb had 25 catches for 370 yards. Sanders took 3 years to develop, didn't become a starter until he joined the Broncos, had his first 1k season in his 5th year. Golden Tate had 21 catches for 220 yards as a rookie. Welker didn't catch a ball until his 3rd year. So...just be patient. 2nd round picks don't just come in and be impact players right away. Nobody says Devin will be a good player down the road, that's silly to say. But it's equally silly to say that he won't. He hasn't gotten a fair shake yet with the QB situation and having two pro bowl caliber guys ahead of him, being injured on top of all that. By his 2nd or 3rd year we will know more about him.

All good points. I think that some of the feelings at this point about him are because of the similarities to Hill. Both second rounders, neither one polished route runners and their college production was meh, at best. Not saying one has anything to do with the other. Time will tell...
True. It's hard to not have Hill linger in the back of your mind, but that's on us as Jets fans. Devin can't help it, he's a different player, he deserves his own fair shake.
Stephen Hill - another example of a WR who got ruined by the Jets. You put that guy on the Pats or Packers, he would have been a superstar with those measurables of his.

I agree; just look at Amari Cooper, he's the same height as Smith, but is listed at twenty pounds heavier, that makes a big difference.
