This... And besides it was really a good effort given how deep he got it...he looked much better than Stacy or Kerley in that return...he has heart and he even had two tackles on ST in the game..I cant recall any WR's with tackles on ST's on many teams...he is a football player...lets give him time...
I'm far from sold on him.He has a long way to go..but you see the talent. And not just size & 40 time like Hill. Get on him for the fumble, not living up to the hype & the eye black thing..sure. But let's give the guy alittle slack..he missed ALL of training camp w/ broken ribs & a collapsed LUNG. I think it's safe to say much of his struggles are plausible. That said...I think he's more of a quick cut/change of direction type of player & not the deep threat he has been labeled. I see very little separation on deep balls & average ball location at best. He can be a very good player in time.Especially for a cold weather team like the Jets where finding space is crucial. As for being the answer to the Jets deep threat woes? Sorry..I just don't see it. He's not gonna dominate constantly running go routes in the NFL.This isn't Purdue like it was in Columbus.
I'm pretty sure Mac wanted Yeldon, and he went back to his best talent available mantra once TJ was gone. WR and D-line were arguable the two least needed positions coming into the draft. Things break a little different and we have Cooper 1 and Yeldon 2?
What exactly is the logic behind some saying that Devin is either a bust, not a good pick or a guy who won't develop? What is this based on?
I feel like pulling teeth here. What exactly do your eyeballs see that would suggest Devin is a bust and/or a player that won't develop?
The equivalent to Revis missing a kick. Devin has no business returning kicks, period. We didn't draft him to return kicks, he's a receiver.
Smith needs to get benched for the rest of the season. In fact, if I were Mac, I'd cut him. Right now. He simply doesn't have what it takes to play in this league.
Smith certainly needs to learn more about the pro level game. He also needs to add some weight. The guy looks like a stick out there. If he can gain 5-10 pounds of muscle in the offseason and keep his quickness and learn more, then he will be a much better player.
Can't say I disagree with him. Expectations for rookies are sky high these days. If you don't come in and have an impact soon people write you off no matter what.
