I happen to think that, Jets are still a little short to compete legitimately.

Brick and Mangold are all getting up there in age, and their replacements should be picked, if they are not within the organization already. [I haven't seen one.]

Revis and Cro aren't exactly spring chickens, and their replacements should come soon as well.

Jets have lacked a blue-chip pass rushing threat from the outside forever by now, and were hurt because of that.

So - this is what I think Jets should focus on the following in the first two rounds:

    1. QB - if available
    2. C
    3. LT
    4. OLB

C is more important than LT and OLB? No way...
Ferguson will have to restructure his contract or sign a cap-friendly new one, or will leave.
The LB corp...Pace's contract will expire, Coples should be cut (no way we would pay his 7.8M salary), so we will set with Mauldin and Reilly in OLB...Demario Davis also doesn't have contract for next season...So, OLB will have to be a top priority and LT (depending on Ferguson's future) under next offseason.

The QB situation is another topic, in sight of Fitzpatrick's injury.

    1. Brick wasn't hampered by big injuries like Mangold was. I am getting a feeling - maybe Mangold will break down faster than Brick will. That's where my concern comes from.
    2. If you understood my intention correctly, you'd see that, unless there is a top tier QB available, I am banking on either Geno or Petty to start next year. [Petty, more likely. I am fed up with Geno - but he can start if Petty needs another year.] Of course his protection is much higher in terms of priority than pass rushing OLB. I know OLB has been a consistent need for the past decade or so, but the last thing I want out of my QB prospect is the next reincarnation of David Carr.
    3. So if the pieces fall that way, I wouldn't mind the Jets picking LT and C in the first two rounds next year, followed by RB [Another big need.]

    I didn't.

If Jets can hit it out of the park on every pick, Jets will be filling seven holes each draft, if they don't snatch UDFAs for a starter. How likely is that? I don't see that happening with the Jets. [Not just the Jets - quite possibly every other franchise for that matter.] So my reasonable expectation is to fill about 2 to 3 holes each draft, and do enough to get by during FA period.

    Jets are lacking the following:

    On offense:

QB, RB, C, LT, RG, RT, TE

    On defense:

    OLB, ILB

I just see QB/LT/C as much higher priority picks to be made than ILB. If you saw how the run game suffered last week, you'd also see OL is much higher priority than most people realize. By now, people should have seen enough of this OL play; they are all good and dandy and all that shit, but when it comes to run games, I just don't see the 2 yard push that elite running teams generate through their OL plays. Ivory is on his own at the LoS, not a few yards downfield.

I agree the offensive line needs a major revamp, ESPECIALLY the right side as it's God awful. I personally see ILB being a higher priority then the Center Position. It's so hard to find a good ILB.

QB > Edge Rusher > LT [that can play RT] > ILB > RG > RB > C > TE

That's just how I see it. I agree with the positions you have listed that need upgrading though.

    1. QB
    2. OLB
    3. OL (Colon probably gone, Mangold and Brick getting old, Breno not great)
    4. Pass catching RB

Free safety and inside linebacker just depend. If we commit to more 4-3 after Snacks leaves the need for an ILB will be far less than it is now.

Centers can get by a long time with physical skills not up to full snuff, there's a reason centers are among the longest lasting Oline players. LT on the other hand is a key position where as a player loses mobility they become a liability and D'brick has relied more on mobility than brute strength.

Assuming we finish well outside the top 10...

    Top/first round needs:

OT- Our most dire NEED as there is NO youth or upside there.

QB- We have youth here, but just how confident are we in Smith and Petty? QB is always something to keep an eye on. Just don't pass on a top 2 Linebacker or lineman for the number 4 QB on the board or something. Its as important to me as any other position listed.

OLB- Mauldin might suffice at SAM, but a weak side pure rusher would be advisable in lieu of Coples.

    Moderate needs:

RB- Been forever since we drafted a running back, we're overdue. consider in the first if a top guy falls on our laps, it'll only help our O as a whole to have a Gurley type in the backfield.

RG- Surely we can find somebody better than Winters, no?

ILB- A WILL or future MIKE wouldn't go amiss.

KR- Can we please get a real one?

P- a lower round, but very crucial need.

    Low Priority needs:

CB- Hey, why not get another young cheap D-back to learn under Revis?

C- An heir apparent to Mangold?… are we at that point?

    D-line- I think we're good guys…

TE- We might not need another young prospect there at this rate.

WR- We're at a stable point here.

With all those needs in the next 2-3 years, it feels like we'll be a bottom 5 team again real soon.

    Thanks for the optimism.

At least we have Marcus Williams. Lorenzo looked good today too.

Not sure who I'd want in order yet but get me a lottery ticket in Goff, Lynch, Brissett, Jones, Hackenberg, Cook or Wentz and pray we find our franchise QB because we'll be nothing but mediocre until we do so unless Bowles forms the 85 Bears defense or 2001 Ravens defense.

  12. I gotta be honest..I don't care about filling holes & all that nonsense. We've seen so many Jet teams that seemed "complete" on paper fall short in the big spot b/c they NEVER have a Quarterback. Not just a guy who can make all the throws either. Someone who is going to completely transform the dynamics of this god awful passing game for literally this entire decade..arguably much longer. I'm throwing all cards on deck. Mike Ditka in a fricking wedding gown style.Get me a god damn franchise QB.Whatever..or WHOEVER it takes!I love the draft & the jets PICKING in the draft as much as anyone..but I'm literally to the point where if it takes 10 future first round picks to nab a QB worthy of #1..I'm behind that 100%.I'm tired of dog poo passing attack.

The good news is Mr GM Mac knows how to draft for this team :

Winners : Williams Maudlin Petty (Probably)

Losers : D Smith (so far...but who knows)

He knows the team needs for next year at every position...between FA and the draft IMHO we get a 75% improvement each year in players

The Coaching...well that remains to be seen

BPA........Is the way the current mgmt staff went last year and will go in 2016.

So trying to pin down a certain position in a particular round is futile.

The team has so many holes but don't blame the current regime, blame Terry Brady and the previous GMs plus Rex.

Richardson and Pryor are the only useful pieces from Idzik's Reign of Error.

I'll post one in a few days for fun, I've been busy with work and was out of town quite a bit the past few months and haven't been around.

BTW, something people haven't been mentioning much, I really believe the Jets need a smaller quicker RB like an Ameer Abdullah type player.
