Sacks should not be used when deciding the value of a D-Lineman. Even at 16 sacks a year, which is unheard of, he disrupted just one play the entire game.

Lane control while pushing the O-Lineman back towards the QB, coming off blocks to stuff the run, coming off blocks to pressure the QB into making the throw quicker than they wanted, batting down passes, demanding dbl teams, and sure, the occasional sack (which usually comes on a busted play or if the secondary completely shuts down the WRs).

Mo brought all that to the game yesterday, while a rookie like Leonard was more concerned with beating his man with one mission in mind. Mo kept the whole LOS under control many, many ways.

    Pay the man!

That's one benefit of not having to pay a Manning, Brady, Flacco $25-$30M per season. You actually have the cap to pick up a few luxury guys like Revis and Mo.

    Good thread Ballhawk

I have the biggest feeling Mo gets paid as soon as this season is over. With the way he's playing, he should and will get his money. I think Mac was still trying to decide if he should dish it out and let the year play out to make his decision. It should be a pretty easy decision now

Is he a physical freak or what? the sight of him chasing T.Taylor was awesome...that said I think he will be franchised (if its an option) and they will see if Leanord Williams can be pan out...if not he will get paid...if he continues at this pace though he will be paid this offseason I just don't see how they can let him go and pay Richardson...Richardson has some Hardy in him...poor judgement that may not be ever cured...

This is probably a stupid question, but here goes: if we tag him can we trade either his rights or just trade him during the season? Or does the tag preclude a trade? Tie up money? Something like that. I knew this once upon a time, but I've forgotten.

Ya but the disadvantage not not having a qb like you named is you will never win a championship without one

The way I see it is that, nobody really knows how to evaluate the player financially in the stage of NFL.

    By now, most of you have seen what I have said in the past;

Say, we get a very generous 180m salary cap. Okay? [I know it is a rather preposterous number now, but we WILL get there in a few years.]

Do you know what that even means for an AVERAGE NFL player?

Even with 180M, if you pay the rooks, fringe players and STers a fringe total of 4m altogether, then an average player will be getting 8M/year. In today's 143M/yr cap, it's closer to 6M/yr.

Even with 180M figure, Mo's cap figures to be [double] if I take the 16M/yr value. I see Mo is good and all - but can he do TWO men's work on EVERY DOWN? In 143M/yr cap, Mo's figure will well exceed two average men's salary.

This was why I was never a fan of shelling out 10M/yr salary to a CB. Brady neutralized Revis by spreading out his receivers all over the field. If your value is concentrated, necessarily you want to go up against a team with similarly concentrated cap system.

I can see that, Jets should pay more as Mo is a top talent, but for the sake of the team robustness, there has to be some limit as to how far Jets should be willing to go to compensate Mo. It's been my case previously as well; the only position worth commanding this kind of investment and commitment is QB.

Salary cap going up every year is almost irrelevant. Cap a few years ago as $60M, and we struggled to sign all the players we wanted to sign. Now the caps closer to $150M and we struggle to sign all the players we want to sign.

Here's the deal: There's only so much talent to divide up between the teams. Maybe 5 franchise QBs, 6 or 7 dominant pass rushers. 5-10 great WRs, even fewer dominant DBs. So the cap, whatever it may be, will ALWAYS be used to chase the talent. The cap could be $3B per team, and we'd STILL be cap strapped. Just that the Brady's and Revis's and Watt's of the NFL will now be making $100M/yr instead of $15M.

GMs will ALWAYS have to decide where to put the cap $'s, no matter how big or small the cap is.

Shit, Willie Joe signed an INSANE contract that is now made by Brady in less than one game.

Did you understand what the post was about? It looks like you didn't even bother reading it. Go do that - it will help you more than you will want to admit.

I don't know - it didn't seem that way to me. Sorry if I misinterpreted you. No harm done.
