I was amazed that with the pressure the Jets offense had been putting on and how they'd been marching with ease that they didnt kick the field goal on the 1st non conversion. Free points and they had a handle on the Bills where it wasnt a stretch to think they could force a 3 and out and come back down for another FG to win..
But you guys weren't better.. You did nothing to deserve that game. You handed it to us and we handed it right back and so much more. Fumble for a touchdown on special teams. A FG off of ivorys fumble.. That's 9 points. And the INT that was tipped off of Marshall in the first half. That's 12 points we gifted you guys... And when I say gifted, I emphasize GIFTED. The only time you guys looked competent was the first drive out of half where you guys looked like New England in how you moved the ball and made it 19-3. Other than that drive you guys didn't do shit all game. We should have have won by 10+, but we didn't. Shoulda coulda woulda. That win for you guys shouldn't feel to good. Kind of like the win we had vs Jax last week. It's a win and it's great and you move on but you guys didn't look good at all. 4 turnovers and only won by 5. That's a joke.
I can't speak for other Jets fans, but for me I didn't care for him even when he was leading us to two AFC CGs. He was always an over-confident blowhard who's teams were over-hyped and usually underperformed. Even early on his regular season record wasn't exactly stellar and in retrospect had he not had some playoff success we wouldn't have had to tolerate him for nearly as long as we did. Simply put, his record in the playoffs has had a wildly disproportionate effect on how people have evaluated him. However, if it were just a matter of Rex being an asshole then I'd tolerate him if he were really turning his teams into winners. After all, Belicheck is an asshole buts I doubt any Pats fans are complaining, right? The problem is that Rex's defenses became increasingly stale, he was unable to compensate for declining levels of talent, and our talent levels dropped precipitously because Rex had a poor eye for talent and even poorer abilities at developing said talent. Now I'm not saying this because he is the Bills coach, I was saying this while he was still the Jets coach. I simply think he is a buffoon. To put it another way: if you are good then you can afford to be arrogant and project confidence, but if you have major problems then arrogance simply keeps you wallowing in your own ignorance by convincing yourself that you are better than you are. That's Rex. I'm glad he's gone. You will be too before too long (although he has toned down some of his former BS I think).
Thats football though. A win is a win is a win. Thursday night games are notoriously ugly. You're absolutely right in that the game was handed back and forth a couple times over. In the end, the better team that particular night (and I'd have felt this way regardless of the outcome) won the game. Our game again Jax was a tough loss and was much in the same fashion that yours was last night. The only difference we overcame a 20+ point hole our QB handed them (its was VERY similar to Geno's meltdown vs Buff last year), briefly took the lead... only to let it slip away. All that hard work to come back and let it go. We certainly felt like we were the better team- but the reality that day was that the Jags were the better team because they found a way to win when they needed to. They drove down to score a TD in the closing minute and deserved to win. Just as Buffalo came up with key stops late, then a key drive to run clock last night and in the end (because someones gotta win) did what they had to do and deserved the W
No problem. I'm sure it doesn't come across as particularly funny in my description, but if you ever get a chance please do watch this film. It is AMAZING! Do you like Monty Python?
Yea, I can absolutely see this happening. So long as the team seemed playoff bound I don't think the Woodman would have tolerated benching Fitz and jeopardizing that, but now that the team is looking less and less likely to be in the post-season I can absolutely see the CS and FO looking for an excuse to put the final stamp on Geno. Either he will have it or he won't, but we will know once and for all. And for Fitz we will probably have our veteran backup next year--someone to groom Petty and/or whomever else we bring in next year.
Th Thanks for the thoughts... I do think Rex may have learned a BIT. I'm not trying to give him too much credit, but I think hes made a couple changes as well as the situation changed a bit. 1st off, maybe he toned it down a bit. He got a little over excited and talked too much shit before the Pats game and embarrassed the hell out of us. Maybe Pegula told him to tone it down, maybe he realized he over did it, but he has not embarrassed us or himself in that manner since. 2nd.. Buffalo is not NYC. We have small city syndrome and love that someone who has connections to the big time and the limelight has seemingly catapulted Buffalo into the national spotlight to a degree. The funny thing is, I feel like simply winning alone may have done that as well BUT he managed to do this before a game was ever even played. Lastly, I'm not sure if he was stubborn with his assistants in NY, but he seemed to go out of his way to surround himself with the best talent possible with his offensive coaches. I think it was VERY smart to go get Roman and basically give him absolute power on that side of the ball. I appreciate he at least knows to stay out of something that someone else is better and more knowledgeable at.
Rex was going to have a Rex-type game but we beat ourselves and let that fucking pig come out smelling like roses.. What a blow hard. Fuck him. A bunch of factors killed us in this game. I was there in 203b. Good seats, covered from the rain which was good.. The only thing good from yesterday. I like Bowles being aggressive, but I honestly would have kicked the FG with 14 mins left and then at the end and we may have won... If Ivory and Smith don't fumble, I honestly think we win.. BUT when their punter muffs the punt and we get it on the 15 yard line in their end of the field, get an 8 yard run on 1st down and can't get 2 yards in 3 more tries, We didn't deserve to win.. What a fucking disgrace. Chan Gailey was horrendous. He gets a lot of blame for the game all around... Some shit calls all game.. Fitz wasn't great, but the guy is a warrior. He drove us down the field a few times late in the game... That last pick was just inevitable. Beat Houston and fight the rest of the season, or we're done... Fucking Rex.....
