It all comes down to their budget. With the amount of money those sites make, why wouldn't they penetrate the market with ads and allocate a ton of funds to advertising? If they don't start to cut the states in, or the government in some form of taxation, these sites will fall in all the major markets. You may see them survive in the midwest, but states with big markets like New York, California, Florida, Texas, etc. will want a cut before they allow it. They're going to what Nevada did in saying until you have a gambling license you're not allowed to operate in our state. It's really backwards. I like the progressive nature of the new NBA commissioner. He's for gambling. All sports should be because there's a lucrative profit in it for them if they are the one's that regulate it. Until that point, off-shore gambling sites are still going to make an incredible amount of money. It's not like gambling is hard to find, it's just annoying to find. Can anyone explain to me why gambling is widely illegal in most places? I mean the only thing I can think of is that it's mostly done with hard cash and cannot be taxed. The government blends that into a moral decision as it would be bad for communities if it was legal everywhere.
Nevada is run by the Las Vegas books they basically tell the politicians what they want they didn't want competition so they got their cronies to ban fantasy
As a 16 year Nevada resident I can say there absolutely is truth to this and the fact that they are unregulated sites gave the books exactly the ammunition they needed. I'm sure it's not far away that there will be DFS in Vegas and Reno books. I'm very pro sports gambling and just hate the absolute hypocrisy of the NFL in this situation. They are promoting the hell out of DFS because they can make money out of it but have always been anti Vegas quite simply because Vegas makes money off them.
the whole reason it's banned in Nevada is because of the LV sportsbooks, that's my point they want people betting there, not on some fantasy site
For sure. But if there was a way for the LV sports books to run the DFS, they would 100% be legal. The books run the laws in Vegas, they say what needs to be going on in order to make sure LV brings in as much $ as possible. The same goes for all the other states. If the government had the ability to run DFS and make money on it, it would be legal
The issue is the day it becomes legal in Vegas to do this the NFL will do all it can to prevent it from happening. Hypocrisy at it's finest
My mistake, I misread Barry's post. For those who don't know, this sportsbook owner is behind a lot of the lobbying and the greasing to keep online sports betting (and I'm sure daily fantasy) illegal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheldon_Adelson http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanv...n-is-winning-his-war-against-online-gambling/ He got Steve Wynn (people should recognize the Wynn name if they've been to LV) to join him. http://www.forbes.com/sites/nathanv...nd-whatever-it-takes-to-stop-online-gambling/
^ Sheldon Adelson quite simply is one of the biggest pieces of shit on this planet. He's pure scum, a real shitbag. The thing is he has the GOP in his pocket so anything they can do to keep his money flowing they'll do.
can't help but agree he's a liar and a hypocrite he claims he's spending all this money because of a "moral obligation". I got this e-mail from fanduel (not a member there, but I sent a letter for them): Thanks for sending a message to Attorney General Schneiderman urging him to keep fantasy sports legal in New York. His desire to take away your right to play is a gross overreach of power, and to prevent him from succeeding, we need to make sure he hears us loud and clear. That's why our coalition, Fantasy Sports for All, is organizing a rally tomorrow to show Attorney General Schneiderman how many fantasy sports players in New York are demanding the right to keep playing. And we need fans like you who care about this to be there. We're meeting tomorrow at 7:45 a.m. in front of the Attorney General's office — RSVP here and bring your friends, family, and colleagues along! Here are the details: What: Fantasy for All Rally When: Friday, November 13th 7:45 a.m. Where: 120 Broadway New York, NY 10271
my god I fucking hate fantasy sports. cant folks just watch the games for the beauty of the games? of course not there always has to be something else for the ADHD folks to keep them interested and spending money. it went from a bit of a fad to completely out of control in just a few years.
I had friends who worked for him and one in very close proximity to him. The guy essentially owns half of Israel and is a major voice behind the US policy with Israel. He treats people like garbage but one thing I will say about him is he does donate a lot of money to charity and schools and has been a very big supporter of cancer centers in Southern Nevada.
http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id...e-new-york-attorney-general-eric-schneiderman DK & FanDuel are going after Schneiderman. GOOD
Because a few old farts decide what's legal and what's not based on some monkey logic. I can't smoke marijuana and play poker from my laptop but it's okay to drive to a casino and bet on horses. I don't play this shit but I feel for those who do. Fanduel and draftkings will eventually get shutdown in the USA just like the poker sites did and you will have to go through Canada or Europe if you want to play.
you kind of missed my point. i dont really get any enjoyment out of people playing poker, i do get a tremendous amount of enjoyment out of the game of football and its sad to me that so many people only care because of their fantasy team. its another wonderful nfl marketing team and every jerkoff in the northeast is attached to his cell phone all day while his kid is playing a real fucking game of football so they can see how some douche they dont even know did on their fantasy team.
http://nypost.com/2015/11/16/casinos-hit-jackpot-in-schneidermans-fantasy-sports-crackdown/ New York’s brick-and-mortar casinos hit the jackpot with their wager on state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who is moving to shut down online fantasy sports-betting operations. Casino interests have pumped more than $150,000 into Schneiderman’s campaign coffers since 2010, according to campaign filings with the state Board of Elections. They show that: The New York Gaming Association — which represents the network of nine racetrack slot casinos across the state, including Genting’s Resorts World Casino New York at Aqueduct — has contributed $48,350 to Schneiderman’s two campaigns for AG. Genting Resorts World kicked in another $40,000 from 2011 to 2014. Schneiderman’s ex-wife and top campaign adviser, Jennifer Cunningham, has been a communications consultant for Genting, the Malaysian gambling giant that runs the Aqueduct slots parlor. Two Genting lobbyists also pitched in: Brian Mearer gave $5,500 and Patricia Lynch, $500. Jeff Gural, a real-estate mogul who owns upstate Tioga Downs racetrack and casino and also wants to open a casino in the Meadowlands, donated $36,000 to the AG. Saratoga Racing Casino and Racetrack Gaming Resource gave $9,500. And Ronald Perelman and his firm Andrew and Forbes, which provides electronic machines for casinos and government-run lottery operations through its Scientific Games Corp., contributed $25,000.
The amusing part about this is that Schneiderman claims season-long fantasy is skill-based, but daily fantasy is not.
