Yep Dolphins with Parker and Sills (who they traded for) Ravens with Perriman Colts with Dorsett Steelers with Coates Texans with Strong It happens everywhere and those guys aren't dealing with a noodle arm QB. Needs time.
All our second round picks in recent years have been awful....Amaro...Hill and Devin Smith. We won't know what we have in Amaro for another year
Ask Fin fans about Tannehill's "strong" arm. Most of those guys havent been healthy either, like Smith, so also gotta factor that in. Hard for a rookie to make a difference when he's not getting reps.
Amaro is in his second year. He's hurt this year and for some reason our dumbass OC last year wouldn't play him. That's not his fault. Smith isn't horrible. He's just playing in an offensive scheme and with a QB that can't take advantage of his skill set.
What I want to know is why smith isn't playing..he came from a huge program (ohio state) so he knows something about the game..i tend tio think this is a bowles thing and nothing to do with ability. the same as it is with petty. this is exactly what we need to open the running game back up. of course we also need a qb that can throw it that far too.
The OP is right on. It's scary how we don't draft WR's with football instincts. Athletes. Not players. Raiders syndrome. Too many guys who don't seem like they understand the game.
WRs are probably the most hit or miss outside of QBs. The draft itself is a crap shoot. every team can lok back and seen the hundreds of mistakes they made
This thread is full of garbage posts. Just saying. In terms of Smith, he's not going to be effective in this particular offense until he refines his route running and proves he can catch the ball in traffic. His best chance to be effective as a young rookie receiver is on deep balls and fly routes. My guess was that he was drafted in anticipation of Geno Smith being the starter snd to subsequently help Geno's deep game. Since we're playing to win with Fitz and not playing to develop with Geno, Devin Smith's impact will be stunted since there is not a lot of deep plays in the passing arsenal. He's too talented to not be a good player one day IMO. But with a high IQ quarterback that's going to check at the line and throw a lot of short timing patterns, he's not going to be that effective until he's completely comfortable with the playbook and route combinations i.e. understanding the concepts and where he needs to work in relation to the other routes. The one thing I'd like to see him get the opportunity on to this point is quick screens and shallow crosses. He has game breaking speed on blown coverages. Outside of that he needs time. And for fucks sake have some patience with young players. We have two threads calling for our top two picks head when we're sitting at 5-3 and those players are 8 games into their career. You can start complaining by year 3 when they've shown absolutely nothing. By the way our 3rd round pick went beast mode this past week in case y'all missed it.
holy shit lol some of you guys are incredibly dumb it's just so difficult reading posts with people acting like they know what they're talking about and already declaring smith a wasted pick. i mean holy smokes
I'm still high on Smith but he's regressing so far... this post wasn't as much about Devin as it was towards our drafting of receivers in general. Meanwhile our second round track record... Hill... Geno... Miller... Ducasse... Hobson... McGraw... Clemens... Dorian Boose... ALEX VAN DYKE and Mike Nugent say hello
