My wife and I used to watch football together when we were dating. When our kids were babies, she stopped watching and would give me constant shit for watching football instead of playing with them. I solved that problem by getting my boys to watch, understand and enjoy football. Now I get to go to a few games a season, and spend sundays watching football... because that's what the KIDS want to do!.

My girlfriend makes it difficult. She doesn't like the sport and protests when I watch too much. I can always get in the Jet game but find it increasingly difficult to watch other games without getting her annoyed. It's a tricky dilemma.

I haven't even had a serious girlfriend (whole serious relationship thing) in my life and some guys here have been married for 20+ years. It's nice to read many different ways to make your SO interested or at least not annoyed lol I'll start working the plan immediately when I find the "right one".

Actually you won't find the right one. The right one will find you. Now that is a separate discussion. :)

One thing I've noticed is that a wife can criticize your hobbies, but it isn't okay for a husband to do the same to her hobbies.

Seems like a complete double standard.

"And training my wife to watch the Jets using sex as a reward? LMAO. I only have sex when I engage in manual labor or buy furniture!" lol

common thread here I'm seeing…seems like the ole bait and switch….I should edit my post re: pavlovian sex training to "works only with girlfriends…not wives"…file under "man ironing is a wife's foreplay"…. When I consider marriage as a life option I'll remind myself to revisit this discussion…thanks

I think part of the "training" is to enforce the concept that football is just a "show". It's a soap opera or The Walking Dead or Modern Family that goes for 17 weeks and us on a few days every week.

It's not on from February until late August and for a few months it's very concentrated binge watching.

Make her choose her top favorite show and ask her to understand what it'd be like to give it up while it's airing in prime time.

It's not football. It's not life.

It's just a show with a different script every week. The Ultimate Reality TV.

If a massage blows your paycheck, man, you need to find a new job. If the wife doesn't like football, you can kiss your steak nachos goodbye.

not married, but always make a conscious effort to give the gf the D an hour before the game starts. Add some food and she's napping during the game.

    that's why I love 1pm Jet games.

Giving a gift because you want something in return is beta behavior.

I have always been up front to the women when I meet them, "Sundays during football season is my day. I watch football all day and don't want to be bothered. That also includes any day the Jets are on. If there is a problem with that, then we can break up right now". Of course they always say, its okay. I eventually got married TWICE and both of them were supportive. There were a couple times Christmas fell on football Sunday. We would wake up and open gifts. Then I would go put my Jersey on and they were like, but its Christmas, we have stuff to do... I was like, "I told you before we met, that football Sunday is my day". They were upset, but got over it.
Two marriages later, my motto is, "BITCHES come and go, but my Jets will always be there."

Part of your problem also is that your user name is Geno75 ,the creative juices must have been in overdrive that day ,pure genius at the highest level. That's got a real SOJ ring to it......It just reminds me that he's still on the roster everytime you post something

I’ve never really had this problem with guys well because in all honesty, I think I love sports more than they do. If a women doesn’t know what’s going on they aren’t going to enjoy it. I think giving the impression that a Q&A during the game is an irritant is a bit discouraging. Women love inclusion. We don’t want to feel like our presence is an annoyance. Be patient.

Don’t act like they aren’t there. If the girl is just going to sit there she’s going to check out. When the game is on I totally understand wanting to pay attention to the tv, but when the commercial comes on have an actual conversation with them. Just be engaging, because ultimately most women just want to spend time with their dude.

I also think taking them to a live game would go a long way. I’ve been into Baseball, football, and basketball since I was a little girl. I never was into hockey. It did absolutely nothing for me. Until a guy took me to a hockey game and then I was hooked. I asked questions and he didn’t make me bad about it. He also bought me gear and that really endeared me to not only him but to the team.
