Let's just hope that today's ugly win doesnt influence the playoff committe too much when they vote on Tuesday .... oh wait
Obsess much? Fitz played well today, but the team overall played poorly. We lose to probably 25 other teams today. You can rejoice in victories over the Browns and Redskins and AFC Souths of the world, but this is a mediocre football team right now. Some us hoped for better but we have been badly exposed the last few weeks. Again, many many playoff appearances by this team since 1998, we aren't the Bills. Some people got so sick of Rex that they act like a non-contender schedule-driven wildcard spot is reason to celebrate like its a title. This is a veteran heavy team that is unlikely to be better in year 2 of Bowles with the roster constituted as is. The schedule will for certain be harder next season. When the team plays like this several game in row, why should we be excited? I want a title contender. And don't tell me we are building something up with the construction of the roster, and the guys that are playing.
We haven't been exposed over the last few weeks. The demographic timebomb on the OL has bitten us, with two over 30 players missing significant time with injuries, we've lost our starting strong safety, who had been playing very well, and our QB got banged up, leading to our backup QB trying to compete on the road with a hot QB in a place known for making a lot of noise when the opposing offense was trying to work. You lose several key players up the middle and it's going to make a difference.
Relax Lon.. You've been around here a long time man and you've seen this shit before. Yeah, it gets old but if some people didn't have the Jets to bitch about, they might do something else really drastic so, think of their bitch sessions as therapy and move on from it. Some of us are reformed Darksiders and get tired of the constant whining even after wins. After a while you realize that nothing will ever be good enough and you'll never please the people sooo, I can sum it up in two words.. Ignore Button.
If what happened to us was a "time bomb", that means it was going to go off at some point, so how is that not being exposed? The team has been exposed as a non-contender, and a product of a favorable schedule. I hope they can get it back together, but I don't see the same reasons for optimism that existed going into the Pats game. Everyone was so pleased that we played them tough. Has that led to anything positive since?
This team was never a contender. Try to pull the shaft out of your ass and try to enjoy a mediocre team striving to make the playoffs and get knocked out in the WC round. Entertaining football is all you can hope for. Or delusionally hope to win a Super Bowl and be prepared for disappointment. Geezuz I weepz for the children. _
Eh, I'm still optimistic. I certainely didn't expect the 2009 and 2010 Jet teams to go as far as they did. Granted, I highly doubt they'll win the SB obviously, but I'm not potentially ruling out a deep run at all either.
The Jets could have gotten lucky and had the 4 30+ guys all stay healthy this year. That Mangold went out is really unfortunate. Basically what has happened the last 3 weeks is just extremely bad luck for the Jets, the bad luck was setup by how the team is constructed but it still had to happen to expose the flaws. The Jets have actually won a game during the process so we're not totally screwed. Now if we get lucky at this point we actually get Mangold back and he can play and the run game works again. If we don't, well then we're going to win 8 or 9 games and still be in wildcard contention in the weak AFC. Basically what we're getting right now is one of the rawer deals that a team built on late prime free agents and some promising young players can get. We've lost two key vets on the offensive line who were a big part of the Jets rushing attack and so the run game has faltered. We've lost a glue player in the middle of the secondary and one of the late prime free agents in the secondary has lost a step and so the pass defense has gone from a strength to a moderate weakness and the tackling has become a disaster. Hopefully we get some of the walking wounded back before long and things begin to solidify again.
I'm the most optimistic homer fan here. I've been hoping and planning for another SB win since I was a 10 year old. I'm also not naive. We're likely not winning a SB this year. But I'm rooting for it like hell. _
This win doesn't wipe out the bad taste left in my mouth from the Raiders game but I'll take 5-3 ready to make a postseason push over what was happening this time the past few years.
We also could have lost the game at the end....I think a lot of Jets fans wanted us to dominate JAX and we didnt
they can ugly win their way to the playoffs I don't give a fuck. by week 17 this game against Jacksonville shows up as a win in the standings and a win against a conference opponent in the key tiebreaker standings. nobody's going to pull out the box score and dock the Jets because it was an ugly win. so who gives a fuck. would like to see the running game for once though they've been missing their pro bowl center and run blocking guard so hopefully this is just a temporary reprieve. the team won just 4 games last year. All of them were masterful works of art and nothing like this disgusting jacksonville win but like I said, I guess I'll manage
