In the post game press conference, one of the reporters mentioned a rumor that Fitz would have surgery on his thumb on Friday, after the Bills game. Fitz seemed surprised at the question, but didnt deny it and said it was something they were looking at. I thought surgery would mean end of season for him? Maybe not? Maybe just a few more days recovery would be sufficient? Or maybe Geno comes in for the week following? This will be a conversation point this week.
It's not a rumor. Bowles said last week after the game that Fitz would need surgery "at some point". It's just a matter of how long he can push it off...pain tolerance. Not sure what kind of surgery he needs and how long it would take to heal, how it would affect him and so on. I doubt it'd be season ending. If it is I'm sure he'll try to push it off until the team doesn't need him anymore (out of playoff race).
Yeah, I knew he needed surgery, but surprised it could be as soon as Friday. Hope it doesnt mean missing time.
if he gets the surgery friday, likely means he'll be back... he's playing with it and it didn't seem to bother him, just seems like the extra days may help it...
It would make sense then since he would have a little longer of a week to rest it. He's going to be playing regardless.
CBS said during the game that he wouldn't wait until the end of the season so naturally most people would assume Friday because of the mini bye week. Nothing confirmed yet.
FITZMAGIC needs an appreciation thread. He has been great this season. (5-3) with a 13TD 7INT ratio. Pretty good. For Jets QB play: Great. Hope he can hang in there for the Final 8.
He's been good. When the offense needs a spark he consistently seems to provide one. And he is minimizing is poor throws.
If it meant he would miss significant time, I am sure they would have just shelved him and proceeded with surgery last week. They're clearly trying to squeeze it in so that his down time is minimal. My take on it anyway...
Trying to figure out what his options are. How would it be possible for him to push this off another 1-2 months? I broke my finger once and didn't get surgery. So the body naturally took care of it. And now it's too late to get it fixed. It's not like his thumb is gonna stay that way for months until he gets surgery. He'd have to get surgery soon I imagine. Hm.
"Dr. Eric Freeman, director of orthopedics at Mercy Medical Center on Long Island and the director of sports medicine at Molloy College, said surgery would likely cause Fitzpatrick to miss a minimum of 4-6 weeks. Dr. Michael Hausman, the chief of hand and elbow surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, said last week he thought it might take 10-12 weeks. On the brighter side, former Chargers physician Dr. David Chao tweeted he didn’t think Fitzpatrick would miss any time."
