His bond movies are just like Windows... Casino Royale great Quantum of Solace meh Skyfall great Spectre meh Expectations were so high from Skyfall that the director tried to go with an encompassing story to finish Daniel Craig's bond career (seemed like it with that ending) that it was just all over the place (hence its 2.5 hours play time)
I rewatched Casino Royale last nite and recognized the tie in to Spectre. Skyfall was tied in as well so I thought they knitted the Craig Era together quite nicely. All four movies made sense by the end of Spectre. 2.5hrs of action kinda feels a bit disjointed but I enjoyed it. No slow spots and the plot was really simple. Bond the "blunt instrument" was back in full force. Not much need for subtlety. As you said, this may have been the wrap up of the DC "Bond" era. Changes the entire thrust of the movie. I'm not convinced that Craig is finished with Bond although I just realized that Casino Royale came out in '06. Its been a pretty good run for Craig. Connery said the same thing and then made one more Bond flick. I see no reason why Craig won't do the same. Especially if they botch any follow on movies after Spectre. What this movie accomplished was the re-establishment of the classic Bond nemesis and the return of the shadow threat from a bygone era. Looks like we'll just have to disagree on this one.
Saw it last night. A solid addition to the Bond Franchise, Craig is easily the number 2 Bond of them all. Love how the humor is kept to a minimum and the brute violence at a maximum. His hand to hand combat is the best of the franchise. And a perfect send off for Craig, if he didn't make it clear enough that he's done, the last scene sealed it. Great Easter Egg Hunt in this one too, paid homage to all the prior Bond movies (and Goldmember too!). _
Haven't seen this one yet but I have to disagree about him being number two. I think he's the best Bond there's been. That's a personal opinion obviously but he is just perfect for that role. It's a tough list but I think he tops it
I still have to give it to Connery. He created the character and set the standard. IMHO Craig is a very close standard. Connery to me is like the Lawrence Taylor of Bonds. _
Yeah see this is something that's hard to argue and more of just personal opinion. I have to say though, Daniel Craig is just perfect for the role. It amazes me every time I watch his movies
That's a tough one. I love Elba. I think he's an awesome actor. I just don't know how it's gonna feel seeing him as Bond
I can work with this ONLY if they transform 007 the man into 007 the section. That way, they can plug in just about anyone and can give them the 007 moniker without explicitly replacing Craig. This would transform "007" into a franchise worth billions potentially and add decades of longevity at the same time. If they're smart, they change 007 into a special forces section within MI-6. Easiest work around I can think of. That would provide a far more believable transition from individuals playing 007 the agent but instead, play Agent X as part of MI-6/007 section... JMHO
1000%. I've heard Tom Hardy is the odds on favorite. Crazy. Fassbender would make a perfect Bond. Character, height, build, charm, violence, eyes, appeal. He's James Bond. _
I dont think Pierce could ever be as serious in the role as Fassbender can...Or better way of saying it is the emotions are better acted by Fassbender. I still liked Pierce's Bond. Goldeneye 4 life!
Yeah was looking at some of the prognosticators about who's next up and I can't think of anyone better than Fassbender. But Craig was admirable and I hope they continue the serious nature they've gone with his character. The campy crap was tired. _
Hardly. After Craig, taking Bond dark, the Roger Moore days are over. Sullivan Stapleton, maybe. But he's already a known quantity.
I have to agree here Hobbes. I just don't see Craig leaving that much potential cash on the table because he suddenly wants to do Hamlet. All he really needs to do is look at his body of work outside of Bond and he'll get there real quick. Being Bond has never hurt any leading man who played the part.
Hurt, no, but apart from Connery no Bonds have had that stellar a career post-007. The role kind of defines a career and represents the pinnacle. His career will probably be similar to Brosnan's once he leaves the role. A few choice roles initially but if they aren't massive hits his opportunities will soon fade and he will be in supporting roles and minor films mostly. Not that he will probably care or struggle, he will just forever be James Bond to virtually everyone.
Whether you believe him or not, he just doesn't want to physically do it anymore. The physical grind just to get into shape to do the film takes months for him. In his late 40s, it's taking longer and longer and a much bigger toll on him. Like a football player, at some point the cash no longer matters. _
