yup, people project human qualities on wild animals. that buck would be more likley to be on maury taking a paternity test than what we see on bambi.

A lot of things. The behavior of the animals, the differences in the animals, the behavior of the people.

A couple of years ago I got up in the morning and when I looked out the bathroom window, my first reaction was "Why is there a llama out there?" Of course there was no llama, but a piebald deer about thirty feet away looking right back at me. There's a small peninsula here, probably less than a square mile in area that has a clan or herd whatever, of very dark deer - most black or almost black on their backs and sides. That's interesting to me.

I hate to get up early and I hate the cold; we have people who complain about the cold all the time who get up early and go sit in a tree for hours. We also have people who seem desperate to get meat in their freezer as if they would go hungry without it yet by other comments they make they are not destitute.

    There's also this: http://www.27east.com/news/article....eer-Hangs-Out-With-Locals-At-Shinnecock-Inlet

    And the follow-up:

Now I'll ask you again - can you really only be interested in those things in which you participate?

The internet has gotten me quite interested in Japanese lesbian oil massages but I've never participated in one.

I wonder if people who hate the concept of hunting--the brutal and senseless killing of cute little animals--also hate the concept of fishing.

I mean, fish have families. Who hasn't seen Finding Nemo and fretted he'd never be reunited with his dad? And savagely pulling them out of their home with a hook embedded in their mouth is barbaric.

It's not like you are going to be destitute or go hungry without those fishes.

You could just go to the supermarket.

beyond the silliness of humanizing of animals, people who feel sympathy for them should be educated about how hunting helps manage the population. without that what you end up with is more animals than the habitat can support and destruction, starvation and disease set in. surely that's not an enviable scenario for the sympathetic.

Yeah we have these really cute cuddly black bears in my area. People started illegally feeding them so they got sensitized to being around people, they started stalking people at the Ramapo Reservation where we and tens of thousands of people hike on weekends and they had to close it for a week to trap and kill the Bears. Barbaric. They have families too. Who doesn't love Winnie the Pooh?

Well, hunters, I have a question for you. I know some will think this is a fabrication but it is 100% true and it really doesn't matter if it's true or not - feel free to consider it hypothetical if that makes it easier to answer:

About two o'clock Saturday afternoon less than a mile down the road from where I live, a truck was pulled over on the side of the road and a person in full camo, no orange, got out and quickly crossed the road and headed quickly into the woods as the truck pulled away. He had what appeared to be a tree stand on his back and was carrying a long object in one hand which I first thought was a firearm but on reflection was probably a bow. He wasted no time in getting as far from the road as he could very quickly. There are houses along part of the road but the area opens up behind them so he would have no problem finding a wide area more than the required 150 feet from any house or other structure. The problem is this is not private property, it is public land for open space preservation and is not a recognized hunting area by the state. There are legal areas within about two miles but they are clearly marked along the road.

After speaking to others, I learned it is now bow hunting season, but if he was actually carrying a bow in that area, he could be charged with illegal hunting. So what should I have done? What would a law-abiding hunter do? What else needs to be considered?

Another day where I have a deer in gun season. I'm learning I guess. Same doe w/fawn came into my area. I waited about 15 minutes for the doe to get into a shooting window. They didn't show any signs of knowing I was in the area. I finally got to draw on a deer but before I could even look in the sights the bitch looked at me and took off. I guess I should have waited for her to turn away from me before I drew. That 60 lbs felt more like 90 at the time btw. I was plenty comfortable with that draw in practice.

On the bright side, finally saw a buck on one of my camera's - the one directly under my stand. Never set the date/time but I know this photo is from yesterday.

I was getting a lot, still getting some but I cleared a lot of the weak brush in front of it and not as many. I have several stealth camera's. I like them better than the moultire and wild game cams. They seem to take the best photos and the least "nothing" photos.

The tines seem uneven. Same number, but different shape. Could just be the angle.
