Don't we get a 1st Round Pick if we give Murphy a Qualifying Offer that he rejects to sign elsewhere?

I guess that would recoup the pick that was dealt when signed Cuddyer.

Need to sign an Infielder who can also play 3rd in case Wright's back is problematic.

Should consider moving Flores to 2nd and explore SS options.

Hope Conforto's emergence gives the FO confidence to give more prospects a shot. Next year, I'd like to see Nimmo and maybe some of Matt Reynolds. Does anyone know much about the other very young SS? I forget his name, but I think it's Ahmed Rosario?

Can Herrera play SS? I would think he's the most likely option to play 2nd when Murphy walks, but can we trust Flores as our everyday SS? I would like Uribe platooning with Wright at 3rd

From what I've gathered, Herrera will most likely replace Murphy at 2B should Murphy leave.

Flores looked good at Ss in the WS, but I'm not sure his range will ever improve. His throws to 1st looked a lot better, but he doesn't charge and I don't know how quick he is at turning two when he has to receive the ball at 2nd and then throw to 1st.

The guys who cover the Mets constantly say that Flores is much more suited for 2B, but again, if he's inefficient at turning two, then that that's probably not the optimal scenario, especially if we're looking to improve the Defense behind these awesome pitchers.

Why didn't we see more of Uribe this series? In the DH and pinch hitting spots I thought we could have used him a couple times. At first I thought he was simply not healthy enough to play but then he came in and had a huge hit in game 3. Still not sure why we didn't see more of him.

And as far as Cespedes goes, no chance I want to see him back. I didn't like him even when he was hitting all those home runs, of course I liked the results, but I feel like the postseason he showed his true colors. Neon Green, meaning he's a selfish attention-starved ballplayer. Didn't execute when we needed him the most.

I understand that, before anything else, a team needs to make the Playoffs; but I'd think a main reason you pay a guy $120-$150 mil is so that he produces in the Postseason. You don't give that money to a player who slumps (both at bat and in the field) during the Postseason.

Hitting wins in the regular season to get you to the post season. Pitching wins in the postseason. We need to address the lineup if Murphy and Cespedes walk..the NL is disgusting. Cubs Dodgers cards pirates nationals mets and it's an even year so that means the Giants will be in contention

Well, clearly, it's not just pitching. Apparently contact-hitting and aggressive baserunning also wins in the Postseason.

That being said, if the Mets had middle-Relief like KC's, then yeah, Pitching probably would've won it for us this past year.

Hopefully Collins has learned from what just happened on the ways in which you need to win. He just signed a 2 year extension

Pitching and defense wins in the postseason.
Travis couldn't throw nobody out. Flores had no range. Murphy made costly errors and is shaky to begin with. Cespedes confused baseball with soccer in center .Duda is okay at first and Wright is a shell of his former self defensively.
Even with rhw Royals aggressive style, if the Mets played sound defense, they would have won the series.

Sandy Alderson collapsed during a media interview today. I would too if I just watched the team I built shit the bed in the series. He collapsed while they asked him if Lagares would have elbow surgery lol.

Hope Sandy is alright but that story looks like it comes straight from The Onion lol.

In regards to the team Im just now starting to feel pissed about how close we were to winning it all. ONE good setup man would've gotten us there. And unfortunately that is one of the toughest spots to find. Who was good this year might suck next year. And vise versa.

I read an article before that the team isnt expecting to try out either d'Arnaud or Plawecki at different positions. Which makes me think one of them could be on the move.

Really like d'Arnaud but his weak arm was completely exposed in the series. He does frame pitches great though.

I wonder if the team likes Plawecki's offensive ceiling more though. At this point d'Arnaud would have more value on the trade market.

Not saying I didn't like the move to get him, but I was always hesitant of keeping him long term, even when he was killing it in the regular season. Things like not running out a dropped strike 3, (many times), not backing up Lagares on that inside the park home run that actually turned out to be a real homerun after instant replay. The fact he is with his 20th team in such a short amount of time. Great move to go get him and I have no regrets with that, but postseason clears everything up and brings all the facts to the surface, however pretty or in this case ugly.

Exactly. If either the defense held up, OR the offense didn't play abysmal with runners on, we could have won the series. We didn't need both of those things to happen, we just needed one or the other. Neither happened and here we are crestfallen. The future is bright but you have to win while you can and we just played so poorly I can't get over it.

It's such a catch 22; we make it to the playoffs with Cespedes's production, yet we still have a shot at winning the WS without it. If only the defense held up, we could have taken it. Our offense was pitiful in the series, with our 3 4 and 5 hitters accounting for ZERO extra-base hits outside of the Wright homer. And yet we still had over a 90% chance of taking Games 1 and 5. The Royals knew what it felt like to lose a WS on their own field and it inspired them to do the same to another team the following year. Hopefully we have the same mentality. Solidify the infield defense, emphasize contact, and steal bases.

So 15.8m for Murphy in the qualifying offer? What does that exactly mean? Can he go sign somewhere else ? Is it like the franchise tag?

It means if he rejects it and signs somewhere else we get a draft pick.

He isn't worth $15 million, and the mets likely know he won't sign a one year deal. So this pretty much is the Mets simply wanting to ensure getting a pick if he leaves.

I've always loved Murph but Im really anxious to see what type of player Herrera can be in a fulltime role. To me he could atleast match Murph's numbers and be a huge upgrade defensively.

Some of the most recent scouting has said that Herrera has a bit more power than previously thought. So that definitely is intriguing. And you know he'll certainly be an upgrade over Murphy defensively.

I think he can push for 20 in a good year. Probably a 12-15 HR guy most of the time though. Which is fine with me.

The fact that he's only 21 and does a little bit of everything good is pretty intriguing.

He was considered by many the teams top hitting prospect most of last year (once Conforto got the call up) so at the very least you can see why the team wants to give him the shot.

I hope there is eventually some talk of a SS upgrade too. Our inability to turn a double play was crucial against KC.
