I'm greedy I miss what Santana Moss gave us returning punts between Chrebet/Kerley PR and Quigley's garbage punting we give up too much field position for a defensive team
I'd rather find a new punter and special teams coach. The only punter lower than Quigley's 34.2 net yds/punt is Weatherford at 30.8. Quigley is 29th at 42.9 yds/punt (Weatherford last at 40.9). Our punting and kick coverage suck balls. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...&archive=false&conference=null&qualified=true
WTF? Whats all the hate and BS I'm reading against Kerley for ? When called upon offensively he has done damned well. Gailey needs to put his bias aside and use him a lot more to open up the game and provide more options for Decker and Marshall. For starters a few short slants on first down instead of the obligatory run could do wonders. Do you guys really think our big problem is lack of field position after punts because of a fair catch? LOL, that is just a pimple on this teams sluggish ass right now.. Try better tackling or tackling period, or better QB decisions in double coverage, or better run blocking, or better punting, or a more aggressive passing game, or collapsing the opposing QB pocket more, or the resemblance of coverage by our LBs, Cromartie and some of the secondary. Either one of the above mentioned gets fixed and we would welcome a safe fair catch by Kerley to put our offense back on the field. We are barking at the wrong problem. Kerley was far more effective that most of the team this past Sunday.
I hear ya but not much to learn returning KOs. Take a knee or run like your hairs on fire. That's it. (Oh, and cover the ball with both hands). Shit, you or me could 'learn how to return kicks' in 10 minutes. Would love to see Devin make at least SOME contribution to this campaign.
I have a foggy recollection of Kerley running one back once for a TD. Might have been pre season. I think Cotchery got one too.
So what if he gets injured again? It's not like I'm calling for Revis to return KOs. Devon is our 4th WR who's SUPPOSED to play teams. He has GREAT hands so he will NEVER fumble a KO/Punt, which is #1. He's VERY FAST which makes him a threat to score anytime he's running free in the open field. Shit, DEION SANDERS returned kicks for the same reason. Great hands, super fast, threat to score every time. Put the snot nose rookie out there and see what he can do.
It's a lot more complicated than just catching the ball and then running. Devin just isn't an elusive guy, he's not gonna take a 4 yard slant, make 3-4 guys miss, bounce around and then take it to the house. You have to have great vision to do that. You have to have great vision to be a good returner. Even on defense when you return fumbles or interceptions. Reed was amazing at it, Cromartie is great at it, Deion was amazing at it. Some guys just have a knack for making things happen when they have the ball in their hands. Devin is just a guy that'll run by you and catch long passes. He doesn't know how to set his blockers up, he doesn't read or hit the holes that are there, he doesn't anticipate the holes that would open up. I'm guessing. If he could do that, if he had those skills and instincts then they would have used him on special teams in college, but they didn't. Bowles didn't bother either.
there have been 4 games this season with just horrible tackling. cro has blown more than a few coverages for big yards. maybe marcus williams should start at left corner and cro play special teams or backup safety. if they don't get the defense fixed, it won't matter who plays qb or on the ol. team is not constructed to be able to play and win from far behind.
Perhaps, but you really don't know, because he's never been called up to do all this. What if 5 yrs from now Devon leads the NFL in punt/KO returns? That's almost as likely as saying 'Devon has no vision to avoid being tackled'. He MIGHT be a Devon Hester in then making. Just gotta make him! Have him 'fair catch' his first 20 punts just to get used to seeing what's coming at him. No loss there.
I'd be happy if he turned into Santana Moss returning punts by the way Jim Leonhard = Chrebet = Kerley as PR's
This guy is standing in front of the Texans stadium hoping for a tryout (well, probably just posing there for a second to get this photo taken). Played WR for the Bears a while ago. 26 years old, 6'1 - 200 pounds. No clue if he's any good. Probably not.
Looks like we have other plans. Miles gets promoted, Jarvis Harrison was waived. Let the headhunting begin.
bringing up Miles was the right move. will give a boost to ST coverage as well. hope Harrison doesn't get scooped up elsewhere.. would like to keep grooming him for a future spot here. would've dropped Bowen instead. how is he still on the roster?
