others have stated it but it cant be emphasized enough: Bowles has no faith in Geno. That is all I need to know to hope that Geno never sees the field again.
I agree it's not a good situation, but it reinforces the fact that TB has no faith in Geno. He probably owes the coach some money.
Very surprising decision IMO...with Fitz's injury history chances of him getting re-injured increase substantially once he starts to 'overcompensate' for the current Injury... TB & the CS have zero/zilch/nada faith in Geno...I know its been said just right above this post but it cant be emphasized enough...I guess those rumors of him deserving the IK punch were true & basically no one in that Locker Room believes in him except Marshall & I suspect that belief is more of the 'new' B.Marshall (Kumbaya Stuff)....or it could also be that the CS think he is no good and never will be even decent..out of the league in a year if cut or finishes out his rookie contract as basically a ball boy.... Well...I have a sneaky suspicion that we will see Petty starting before the season is over since I don't believe Fitz will finish the season without another injury....
I put Marshall on my fantasy team assuming Geno will be targeting him every pass play starting in the 2nd qtr
The other thing that's in play here is that despite Fitzpatrick not being a star QB, and he's not even close, he's been playing really well this year. That's a fact that the people upset that he's not Tom Brady have been skirting all year long as they take shots at him. The Jets offense has moved reliably with him on the field and they've been scoring TD's, not FG's in the process. If you're Todd Bowles you probably very much like what you're seeing out of Fitzpatrick at this point and certainly don't want something else out of the available alternatives at this point in the season. There's every reason to believe the Jets make the playoffs as a wild card in the weak AFC if Fitzpatrick plays the rest of the way and a total crapshoot if he doesn't. In other words, it's not all about Geno Smith at this point in terms of the decision. Fitzpatrick has played well enough that if you're Todd Bowles you want him on the field moving forward, even if he's banged up.
Nothing for nothing, that's legit tough. I had the same injury from hanging ductwork and I can tell you it's one of the most painful injuries I've ever had. And it last a looooong time too. To put it in perspective, let me list some of the injuries I've had that didn't hurt as bad, as long. While I understand his medical treatment was far better than mine, that injury is still insanely painful. Fractured/Chipped vertebrae Broken Knuckles 3rd degree burns on my shoulder. Scissor/platform lift ran up on my foot knocked myself out snowboarding (Hell I taught myself to snowboard at 38...fucking tailbone took a beating) Dozens of cuts. Any dentist visit. Any pre-dentist visit Any medical procedure Teeth knocked out. All hurt waaaaay less than torn thumb ligament.
I see where you are coming from, but from everything I'm reading, he should be fine. The hardest part about all of this is learning to hand off with his right hand as opposed to his left, which is what he's used to. I was watching espn last night and Kurt Warner was on talking about it. Said that the glove makes your hand feel ten times better and doesn't hurt much at all when hit with it on. The other thing he noted was taking snaps under center, considering both hands are used. Warner said with practice, he should be fine. It's a torn ligament injury but it's not something that is in a location that could be dangerous, like a knee or elbow. Our offensive line has been great too, minus last game. If Mangold is back, he should be OK
Geno will be gone from the Jets next year but he'll land somewhere as a backup, he has a good bit of experience, youth, a great arm and athleticism. He's also had games that show he can play in this league. Under the right circumstances, system, and coaching I wouldn't be surprised to see him start in this league. He's not like Sanchez, Sanchez just didn't have the physical tools or the brain, Geno is just missing the brain.
This is crazy talk. Its obvious to everyone that fitz is starting with his thumb hanging off because bowles hates geno and geno owes him money too and bowles has proof that geno is the cause of all things bad in the world as well as the worst person to ever think about playing any sport or game in the history of the world. I understand that it doesn't make sense that he is still number 2 on the depth chart considering all this, but once you look past that its pretty clear the rest has to be true
Vegas spread just shot up to 38.5 haha anyway, this says A LOT for Fitz's toughness as a human being. Jammed my thumb playing BB in 5th grade and my hand was excruciating for weeks. Had to hold it above my heart during class just due to the terrible throbbing. To think Fitz is going out there with 300 pound mad men trying their hardest to crush him is beyond Noble. NEVER look ahead. BUT if Bowles was going to, this would be the game to do it. Sit Fitz. Sit Mangold. Sit Ivory. Sit Cro. Sit Pryor. Sit Marshall. Sit Decker. Put our 'next ups' out there and get ready for Buffalo in 4 days (and the rest of the season).
Some here and elsewhere say this decision shows Bowles has no faith in Smith and in fact will move on from him in the off season. That of course is an appealing notion to me, as I have seen more than enough of Smith already. And I am not saying Bowles has not arrived at that point. But I think you are correct and more important is that if Fitzpatrick can play, then you continue to play him. It's not primarily about Smith. Add in that Smith is not 100% himself and it was I think an easy decision, mostly having to do with staying with your winning and starting Qb.
